Manchester United have found out who they will be facing this summer in the SuperCupNI.
United have a rich history with the Irish youth tournament.
The club’s website states, “The SuperCupNI is an annual junior tournament held on Northern Ireland’s north coast, and has become somewhat synonymous with United’s participation over the years.” The competition was first founded in 1983 and is widely regarded as one of the most illustrious youth football tournaments in the world.
Class of ’92 stars such as Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have all played at the tournament, as have more recent first team players like Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford. Exciting talent JJ Gabriel also shone at last year’s edition, and the son of former striker Wayne Rooney, Kai, also scored a goal last summer.
United last won the Premier section in 2017, the Junior section in 2022, and the under-13s back in 2013.
This year’s tournament will take place from Sunday 26th July until Friday 31st July.
United will send a team to the Premier Section, where they will play in Group D.
Here, they will face local side County Antrim as well as Scottish giants Rangers FC.
The final opponent in the group will be Intercontinental FC.
The Red Devils will also send a team to the Girls Junior section of the tournament.
United have been drawn against Belfast sides Glentoran and Linfield in this section. The final opponent of the group will be Scottish side Kilmarnock FC.
Finally, United will also be involved in the Girls Premier section.
They have been drawn in Group A, where they will face arch rivals Liverpool. They will also come up against Il Heming and Desert Empire.
