The Bayern day in the ticker: Here FCBinside offers you a compact overview of what’s going on at FC Bayern. The most important news, information and transfer rumors of the day about the record champions. And the opportunity for you to discuss the latest developments in the comments section. Friday, January 2 – let’s go!
This comes as a surprise: Michael Tarnat takes on a new key role – and thus returns to the big stage in a responsible position.
FC Erzgebirge Aue have filled their most important sporting management position and appointed the former Bayern professional as sporting director. The board of directors and supervisory board opted for the 56-year-old, who will be responsible for the sporting fortunes of the third division club with immediate effect.
The former international played 363 Bundesliga matches and made 19 appearances for the German national team, with whom he took part in the 1998 World Cup. His name is particularly closely associated with FC Bayern: Tarnat played 198 competitive matches for the record champions, scoring 17 goals and celebrating great success. His CV includes four German championships, three DFB Cup victories and the 2001 Champions League triumph.
Tarnat will get to know his new employer immediately. He will be on site for the test match against Union Berlin on Monday to get a first impression of the team and the environment. Aue’s sporting director Jens Haustein is convinced of the decision: „Michael Tarnat is experienced, ambitious and well connected. We will give him every support so that he can quickly set the right course.“
After the end of his active career, he worked at FC Bayern Munich and Hannover 96 as head of the youth development center. From 2017 to 2022, he was responsible for talent development at the club from Lower Saxony. This experience should now help to stabilize FC Erzgebirge Aue in sporting terms.
The traditional club from the Erzgebirge can look back on a difficult first half of the season. With 22 points from 19 games, Aue is only just above the relegation places. Tarnat succeeds Matthias Heidrich, whose position has been vacant since the beginning of December.
Ex-Bayern striker Roque Santa Cruz continues his career and signs with Club Nacional in Paraguay at the age of 44. Find out more here
