Sven Botman undergoes facial fracture surgery after Tyne-Wear derby collision | OneFootball

Sven Botman has undergone surgery on a facial fracture sustained in Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby defeat.

The injury followed a collision with Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey and he was replaced in the 55th minute at St James' Park under concussion protocol.

On Monday afternoon, the club said in a statement that the operation was successful, the Dutchman will have a spell out but is not expected to be sidelined for long, and he hopes to be available in the closing weeks of the season.

The defeat capped a bruising spell for Newcastle, who also lost 7-2 to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Newcastle United also wished the defender a swift recovery.
