Swansea City are set to benefit from their decision to loan Filip Lissah and Kyrell Wilson to Falkirk
With the 2025/26 Championship campaign firmly in the rear-view mirror, Vitor Matos and Swansea City will have turned their attention to planning for next season as they look to build on their 11th place finish.
Matos will have the benefit of a full pre-season this time around, and he'll be using that to look at younger players who are performing well from the academy and players returning from loan spells away.
Two players who will get the chance to impress Matos for the first time are Filip Lissah and Kyrell Wilson, with both players spending the entire 2025/26 campaign away from SA1 with loan spells at Scottish Premiership newcomers Falkirk.
Both players have improved with regular first-team experience north of the border, and the Swans could be about to benefit from the decision they made last summer to loan them out.
Prior to their move to Falkirk, Lissah and Wilson both lacked first-team experience, but they're coming back from Scotland with a combined tally of 63 appearances between them for The Bairns, and they're undoubtedly better players than they were this time last year.
Even more importantly, they play in positions where Swansea currently lack quality and depth, so there's every chance that a good pre-season could see them feature in Matos' plans when the Championship season begins in August.
21-year-old Lissah can play across the backline, and earned rave reviews for his performances in the Scottish Premiership, winning Falkirk's Young Player of the Season award and becoming one of the first names on John McGlynn's teamsheet.
While he featured most commonly at right-back, he also featured regularly at left-back and centre-back, and given Swansea's lack of depth in those positions, you'd expect him to be around the first-team squad next season.
Josh Tymon is the only permanent senior left-back in the Swans' squad, while Ben Cabango and Cameron Burgess are the only feasible options at centre-back with Ricardo Santos seemingly guaranteed to move on this summer. This will free up chances for Lissah, and it would be a surprise if he's not a regular in the matchday squad next season.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old winger Wilson took a huge step in his development by playing regularly in the Scottish Premiership, chipping in with some impressive goals against Aberdeen and Celtic as Falkirk registered a 6th place finish.
It's fair to say some of Swansea's wide players flattered to deceive last season, with Ronald, Eom Ji-Sung and Zeidane Inoussa all struggling to maintain form, and Wilson is returning to SA1 at the perfect time to make a first-team breakthrough.
Pre-season will be key for both players, but their return, along with Cameron Congreve, who will return from an impressive spell at Dundee, will almost feel like new signings for Swansea and should give Matos genuine options for next season.

Given his work at Liverpool as Elite Development Coach, where he helped bring through the likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Neco Williams, Matos should be the perfect manager to help nurture young players like Lissah and Wilson.
With a full pre-season and summer transfer window to help shape the squad, Matos will be keeping a close eye on some of Swansea's returning loanees to see who's capable of making the step-up to Championship football next season and which players need a further loan spell.
A full season of Scottish Premiership football has done Lissah and Wilson's chances of breaking into Swansea's first-team no harm, and the fact they play in positions where Matos needs to strengthen could benefit them.
One thing's for certain, Lissah and Wilson will be returning to Swansea as better players than when they left, and the decision to loan them to Falkirk will benefit the club in the medium and long term.
