Switzerland secured a commanding 4–1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina at SoFi Stadium, with substitute Johan Manzambi scoring twice after a goalless first half. Tarik Muharemović's 80th-minute red card left Bosnia exposed as Switzerland added three goals in the final ten minutes. The substitute delivered one of the standout World Cup performances with two goals in just 16 minutes on the pitch. Manzambi entered at the 71st minute with the match deadlocked and needed only three minutes to break the stalemate, announcing himself on the biggest stage in emphatic fashion.
His opening goal demonstrated outstanding technique as a clearance from Amar Memic fell to him at the edge of the box. Manzambi struck a first-time right-footed volley that flew into the net, a finish that required composure and precision under pressure to execute.
He completed his brace in the 90th minute, timing his run perfectly to meet Rubén Vargas's cross from the left and applying a composed close-range finish. Manzambi's double transformed a tight contest into a statement result that revived Switzerland's Group B campaign.
Vargas proved the perfect complement to Manzambi among Murat Yakin's game-changing substitutes. Entering alongside the two-goal hero at the 71st minute, he scored once and assisted another to help dismantle Bosnia's resistance after their red card reduced them to ten men.
His goal at 84' showcased predatory instincts inside the penalty area. Receiving Breel Embolo's layoff after the striker held off his marker, Vargas swept a first-time right-footed finish into the bottom corner with clinical precision to double Switzerland's advantage against the depleted opposition.
Vargas then turned provider, delivering the decisive cross from the left byline for Manzambi's second goal. His directness and quality stretched Bosnia's ten-man defence repeatedly, and his combination with fellow substitutes produced the goals that sealed a comprehensive victory.
The centre-back's evening ended in infamy when he received a straight red card in the 80th minute for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. With Bosnia trailing only 1–0, his dismissal removed their final chance of salvaging a result and exposed them to Switzerland's ruthless finishing.
Muharemović brought down Breel Embolo as the Swiss striker broke through on the edge of the box, leaving the referee no choice but to send him off as the last defender. The foul occurred at a moment when Bosnia still had ten minutes to find an equaliser against eleven men.
The consequences were devastating. Within four minutes of his dismissal, Vargas had extended Switzerland's lead to 2–0. By the final whistle, Bosnia had conceded three more goals, their defensive structure collapsing without Muharemović. A disciplined 74-minute performance was undone by one costly challenge.
