Tahirys Dos Santos has delivered an encouraging update after suffering severe burns in the Crans-Montana nightclub fire, and is feeling better following a recent graft.

The 19-year-old FC Metz defender remains in Mercy hospital in Metz. In an Instagram post on Friday, a little over three weeks after the Swiss blaze, he said the past weeks had been difficult and that, after a recent graft, he feels better. The road ahead is long, he is looking forward with confidence and determination, and he thanked everyone who has supported him.

Dos Santos sustained serious burns to the back of his head and large parts of his body. He is among the 120 people injured when a Crans-Montana nightclub was ravaged by fire in the night of 31 December to 1 January, which left 40 dead, including 20 minors.

He escaped the flames quickly, then returned to pull out his girlfriend, Coline L., who was also badly hurt.

For now his rehabilitation continues in Metz, and he signalled that he is focused on what lies ahead.
