There’s always one transfer every summer which turns into a big of a saga, with incremental updates every couple of days from insiders like Fabrizio Romano, and it looks like Jamie Gittens is going to be this year’s.
We’ve already had a decent chunk of story in it so far – Chelsea bid for the winger back in January, but were quoted a vast €100m asking price which put them off.

They’ve since returned to make fresh attempts this summer, and before the Club World Cup mini transfer deadline a couple of weeks ago the Blues got Dortmund down to something like €80m, closer to their maximum offer of €60m.
Things have since gone quiet in terms of official bids, with the fact that both teams are competing in the USA probably putting the brakes on it a little.
But Romano has just dropped an update which reassures everyone it’s just a matter of time before things fire up again.
He wrote that Chelsea and Dortmund “remain in contact” over the winger, and that a “new bid” is soon to follow.
“Talks underway again,” the insider concluded.
Just as he did a couple of days ago, Romano also noted that Gittens has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge. He “only wants Chelsea”, apparently.
With personal terms also apparently already done, this means that the price is the only stumbling block. The difference in valuations seems large, but a long summer of negotiating could change that.
Hopefully the fact that Gittens wants the move so badly will encourage him to put plenty of pressure on Dortmund on his end, helping out cause in that regard.
