Milan director Igli Tare reminds fans that their target for this season was always Champions League qualification, so they ‘look to the future with great enthusiasm’ despite recent setbacks.

Their trip to Cremonese kicks off at the Stadio Giovanni Zini in Cremona at 11.30 GMT (12.30 CET).

The Rossoneri have stumbled in recent weeks and fell 10 points behind leaders Inter, 13 following last night’s Nerazzurri victory over Genoa, so the pressure is on to keep up the pace.

With the Derby della Madonnina coming up next weekend, the Scudetto race may well be over already by early March.

“Looking at last season’s results, our objective was to bring stability, to build a team that can achieve important objectives like Champions League qualification. In that sense, I think the club and squad have done a good job,” Tare told DAZN Italia.

“Don’t forget more than 12 new players arrived, so it is a new project, some points can be dropped along the way, but we remain concentrated, and above all aware we must look to the future with great enthusiasm.”

Milan were unbeaten since the opening weekend, until last week’s surprise 1-0 home defeat to Parma, with some refereeing controversy over how the decisive goal was allowed.

“In football, we have seen anything is possible. A defeat cannot remove the belief we built over six consecutive months. We also saw how that defeat happened, without getting into controversy,” added Tare.

“We have the chance now to play a good game and prepare for the derby with enthusiasm.”

Max Allegri said that there were often different ideas within the club on how to build going forward, so how is Tare forming the squad?

“We work as a unit, sharing ideas, and knowing that next season will be different to this one, with additional commitments. Milan must be competitive for next season too. If you don’t manage to find a way through, then that is a problem, so while there might be different ideas, the most important thing is the good of Milan,” concluded Tare.
