Igli Tare is facing a potentially turbulent summer beyond his recent dismissal from Milan, with the Albanian sporting director understood to have been placed under investigation by Albanian authorities on suspicion of money laundering and corruption.
According to MilanNews.it, Tare’s name has emerged in an ongoing investigation by SPAK, the Special Anti-Corruption and Organised Crime Prosecution Office.
The former Milan sporting director is said to have become a person of interest during a probe originally centred on former Albanian deputy prime minister Belinda Balluku, who faces accusations relating to violations in public procurement.
The development adds further complication for Tare, who was dismissed by AC Milan just 10 days ago as owner Gerry Cardinale’s overhaul of the club’s leadership gathered pace following their failure to secure Champions League qualification.
The Albanian investigation deepens an already difficult period for the 52-year-old, who has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
