In the 19th edition, we will look back at FANTICK, a local forward developed in Avaí’s youth academy, who helped the Lion win the 1995 Santa Catarina Cup, the 1997 Santa Catarina State Championship, and the 1998 Brazilian Série C title. Márcio Delvi da Costa, better known as Fantick, was born on April 22, 1977 (49 years old), in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. A supporter and passionate fan of the Lion since childhood, he began making his dream of becoming a player come true after passing a trial for Avaí’s youth team in 1994. He soon reached the professional squad and, over the following years, played 222 matches and scored 28 goals for the Club. He is the 22nd player to have worn the Avaí shirt the most, according to the data published in the book AVAÍ F.C. 100 anos de histórias 1923 – 2023, by Dois Por Quatro publishing house, by authors Adalberto Jorge Klüser, Felipe Matos and Spyros Apóstolo Diamantaras. A fast, hard-fighting forward, he was an important part of the titles won in the 1995 Santa Catarina Cup, the 1997 Santa Catarina State Championship, and the 1998 Brazilian Série C.
Fantick scored Avaí’s first goal in the 1999 Série B, when the Lion of the Island beat São Caetano-SP 1-0 in the very first round of that competition. In 2002, he was transferred to América of Mexico, returning to Avaí the following year. He also had spells at Caxias-RS, Joinville-SC, Criciúma-SC, and Marcílio Dias-SC, where he retired in 2009.
After retiring, Fantick began managing the family business, continuing to live in Lagoa da Conceição, in Florianópolis-SC.
To this day, he still plays for Avaí Master in exhibition appearances representing Avaí and Florianópolis. On May 6, 2015, journalist Polidoro Júnior interviewed Fantick. On that occasion, Fantick recalled the match of the century, when Avaí knocked Figueirense out of the Copa do Brasil. Check it out:
YOUR BEAUTIFUL PAST On April 28, 2022, Fantick was interviewed by journalist Rafael Xavier on the program YOUR BEAUTIFUL PAST, on TV Avaí, now Avaí Play.
Fantick defined what Avaí means to him, recalled his beginnings in football, and the titles he won on the field.
