In the 23rd edition, we will look back at VANDINHO, a goal-scoring forward who shone in 2008 and became Santa Catarina State Champion in 2010.   Vanderson da Silva Souza, or simply Vandinho, was born on August 24, 1986, in Londrina, Paraná.   He began his career in the youth ranks of PSTU-PR and Paraná-PR. As a professional, besides playing for Avaí, he also had spells with São Paulo, Guaratinguetá-SP, Desportivo Brasil, Flamengo-RJ, Sport-PE, São Caetano-SP, Alania Vladikavkaz (Russian Federation), Al-Arabi (Qatar), Skövde (Sweden), América de Natal, Santo André-SP, J. Malucelli, Vila Nova-GO, Ypiranga de Erechim, and Rio Branco-PR.   At Avaí, he played as a forward in 2007-2008 and 2010-2011. He made 101 appearances and scored 47 goals, according to the data published in the book AVAÍ F.C. 100 years of stories 1923 – 2023, by Dois Por Quatro publishing house, by authors Adalberto Jorge Klüser, Felipe Matos, and Spyros Apóstolo Diamantaras.  He arrived at Avaí for the 2007 Brazilian Série B Championship. The following year, he shone in the Santa Catarina State Championship, finishing as top scorer with 21 goals and reaching a total of 27 goals for the season. With his goals and strong performances, he drew Flamengo’s attention and was transferred. To replace him, Avaí signed Evando. Later, in 2010, Vandinho returned to Avaí, but struggled with some injuries.   In addition to helping Avaí secure promotion to Série A in 2008, Vandinho became Santa Catarina state champion with Avaí in 2010.

He retired in 2013 at the age of 30. He currently lives in Presidente Epitácio, in western São Paulo state, where he has held roles in the Sports Department at the local city hall.
