Every Thursday, Avaí Futebol Clube celebrates a former player who left his mark on the club’s century-long history. We remember stars who brought us so much joy wearing the blue and white colors.

In this edition, we look back at RÉGIS, a defensive midfielder who won the 1995 Copa Santa Catarina and the 1997 Campeonato Catarinense. Reginaldo José Pacheco, popularly known as Régis, was born on October 6, 1970, in Curitiba, Paraná.
He began his career in the youth ranks of Pinheiros, in Paraná. He also played for Foz do Iguaçu-PR, Apucarana-PR, Batel-PR, Caçadorense-SC, Avaí, where he made history, Sampaio Corrêa-MA, Tiradentes-SC, and Marcílio Dias-SC, the club where he retired in 2002. At Avaí, he played from 1994 to 1998 and again from 1999 to 2000. He played 195 matches and scored six goals, according to data published in the book AVAÍ F.C. 100 anos de histórias 1923 – 2023, by Dois Por Quatro publishing house, written by Adalberto Jorge Klüser, Felipe Matos, and Spyros Apóstolo Diamantaras. It was at Avaí that Régis stood out, showing his grit. He won important titles, such as the 1994 Campeonato Catarinense 2nd Division, the 1995 Copa Santa Catarina, and the 1997 Campeonato Catarinense. On September 14, 2013, Avaí honored the champions of the 1995 Copa Santa Catarina. On that occasion, the names of the heroes who won the title were printed on the shirts of the Avaí players who faced ICASA-CE in Série B. Avaí won 3-1, with goals from Alex Lima, Marquinhos, and Luciano. The players received a certificate and a poster commemorating the title on the Ressacada pitch during halftime.
Also in 2013, on October 8, Avaí honored the players who won the 1997 Campeonato Catarinense. The ceremony took place at halftime of Avaí’s fine 1-0 victory over Sport-PE in the 28th round of Série B. The game’s only goal was scored by Márcio Diogo.
On April 20, 2020, Canal Troféu Avaí published one of Régis’s goals for Avaí. It came in a 2-2 draw with Coritiba in the Copa do Brasil. The match was played at Ressacada stadium. Dedimar opened the scoring for the visitors. Still before halftime, goalkeeper César Silva equalized for Avaí from the penalty spot. In the second half, Flávio Costa put Coritiba back in front. But defensive midfielder Régis struck a beautiful long-range shot to level the match at 42 minutes.
In another video, published by Memória Avaiana, Régis delivers a masterful pass for Jacaré to score in the victory over Figueirense in 1996. Check it out:
MEMÓRIA AVAIANA On August 14, 2026, journalist Rafael Xavier was in Curitiba, where he interviewed the idol Régis. The interview is available on Memória Avaiana’s YouTube channel. During the interview, Régis spoke about his love for Avaí and highlighted the 1995 Copa Santa Catarina title. “It was one of the titles that stayed with me. It was against everything and everyone. The Joinville team was better than ours, their salaries were higher than ours, everything was paid on time, and we went out there purely for the love of Avaí, love for the shirt!” said Régis.
