Following Thursday's UEFA Champions League loss against FC Barcelona at St. James' Park, Howe has shuffled the pack ahead of facing his former club, with Malick Thiaw being handed his first Magpies start following his transfer from AC Milan last month.

The German defender will be situated in the heart of Newcastle's defence alongside Dan Burn, who captains the visitors this afternoon, and Sven Botman while Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, the latter making his first Premier League start since February, occupy the defensive flanks.

Nick Pope, targeting a third consecutive Premier League away clean sheet, continues in-between the sticks.

Sandro Tonali retains his place in the middle of the park while Lewis Miley, who makes his 50th appearance for his boyhood club this afternoon, and Joe Willock have both handed starts at the Vitality Stadium.

Jacob Murphy, who has recorded two assists in his last two competitive matches, will aim to provide attacking support for German striker Nick Woltemade, who replaces the suspended Anthony Gordon.

Howe has plenty of attacking options to deploy from the bench if required, including trio Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga and Will Osula as well as Brazilian pair Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton.
