Telemundo has strengthened its position in the United States football broadcasting market after securing the exclusive Spanish-language television rights to all UEFA men’s club competitions from the 2027-28 season.

The three-year agreement includes the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and Super Cup. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Matches will be shown across Telemundo, Universo, Peacock and Telemundo’s free ad-supported streaming platform, giving viewers multiple ways to watch Europe’s biggest club competitions.

The agreement follows record-breaking viewing figures for Telemundo during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when the broadcaster attracted its largest-ever Spanish-language audiences for several knockout matches.

Telemundo chairman Luis Fernandez described the Champions League as the natural next step after the network’s successful World Cup coverage.

“There are two major brands in world soccer – World Cup and Champions League,” Fernandez said

“After a truly memorable World Cup for Telemundo, if you ask what comes next, the answer is simple – Champions League.”

“The greatest stars – including (Kylian) Mbappe, Lamine (Yamil), (Erling Braut) Haaland and (Ousmane) Dembele – have now signed on with Telemundo, and Telemundo will bring them to its audience.”

The Champions League is UEFA’s flagship club competition and one of the most valuable sporting properties in the world.

The expanded 36-team format has increased both the number of matches and the tournament’s commercial value.

Qualification continues to provide clubs with significant financial rewards through participation fees, performance bonuses and UEFA’s value pillar payments.

The most recent Champions League campaign concluded with Paris Saint-Germain successfully defending the title after defeating Arsenal on penalties in the final following a 1-1 draw.

That final also produced record audiences in the US, reflecting the competition’s growing popularity across both English and Spanish-language broadcasts.

Telemundo’s acquisition further expands an already impressive football portfolio that includes the Premier League, Liga MX, the US men’s and women’s national teams and Olympic football.

The broadcaster also recently secured the Spanish-language rights to the Bundesliga, underlining its ambition to become the leading destination for football fans in the US.

NBCUniversal News Group chairman Cesar Conde believes the World Cup demonstrated that audiences increasingly value authentic football coverage.

“This World Cup has reinforced what we’ve believed for years – when soccer is presented with authenticity and passion, fans respond,” Conde said.

“We’re proud that so many viewers, including millions who don’t primarily speak Spanish, chose Telemundo during this tournament.”

With UEFA’s premier club competitions now joining its extensive football portfolio, Telemundo has positioned itself as one of the dominant broadcasters in the US soccer landscape ahead of the next broadcasting cycle beginning in 2027.
