There are moments in a season where belief becomes just as important as tactics, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen has just delivered exactly that for Barcelona.

Speaking on 3Cat’s FanZone programme (h/t SPORT), the German goalkeeper broke his silence at a crucial time, offering both reassurance and confidence ahead of Barcelona’s uphill battle in the Champions League.

After a damaging 0-2 first-leg defeat, the Blaugrana now face a defining night at the Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid and Ter Stegen is convinced the tie is far from over.

“We still have the second leg; stay calm, work hard, and now let’s win and advance to the next round.

“I know what it’s like to win at the Metropolitano, and I also know what it’s like to come back,” he said.

On recovery and World Cup ambitions

Away from the pitch, attention has also been on his recovery. The German offered a positive update, suggesting that the hardest phase is now behind him.

“Recovery is going well; life is back to normal now. I feel good and I’m moving more easily,” he added.

However, when the conversation shifted towards international ambitions, particularly the upcoming World Cup, Ter Stegen struck a far more cautious tone.

While he remains hopeful, he acknowledged the reality of his situation, stating, “Right now, we’re still a long way from that.

“I feel pretty good, and from here we have to make an effort to be in good health, and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season—whether I make it or not—but it’s complicated.

“Normally, with this kind of injury, you’re out for a while longer,” he admitted.

In fact, Ter Stegen made it clear that he has no intention of rushing his return, even with major tournaments on the horizon.

“I’m not going to push myself because health is the most important thing, but the desire to be at a World Cup and live through this experience is unique,” he explained.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his personal situation, the goalkeeper remains composed and grounded, trusting both the process and the squad.

“There are a lot of factors that have to come together, and I respect whatever decisions are made. I’m very calm; we have a great team that will fight for everything.”
