Burnley have made a bid for former Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath

Burnley's summer business is yet to get truly underway, but things could well be about to heat up at Turf Moor, with the Clarets eyeing a big move to sanction the return of a former Championship star.

Indeed, it's been all outgoings at Burnley thus far, with no new faces having been added to the squad since the commencement of the summer window.

Nicky Hayen has arrived from Belgian side Genk to replace Scott Parker at the helm in Lancashire, but the 45-year-old has yet to make any additions of his own to the playing squad.

The likes of Maxime Esteve, Jaidon Anthony, and Loum Tchaouna have collected around a combined £70 million in sales, and with parachute payments following relegation, the Clarets ought to be flush with cash.

Now, Hayen is looking to put those funds to use with a move for a forward who tore up the Championship previously, but has struggled since their departure.

Now, with the departures of Anthony and Tchaouna, they've seen ten of their 38 league goals from last time around depart, and with Zian Flemming also linked with a move away, over half of their league goals last season could leave this summer alone.

Hayen, having arrived at Turf Moor a couple of weeks ago now, has now identified his first big target of the window, with former Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath the subject of a bid from the Clarets, as per Alan Nixon's Patreon.

Latte Lath, 27, joined Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023 from Swiss side St. Gallen under Michael Carrick, having spent time in the lower league of Italy previously before netting 14 goals and grabbing four assists in 31 league games in Switzerland.

The Ivorian would score 16 and assist once in 30 Championship games during his first year at the Riverside, and then added a further 11 goals and three assists in 29 games the following campaign before MLS outfit Atlanta United parted ways with a league-record £22.5 million to bring him to Georgia.

However, in 18 months in the United States, Latte Lath has scored just 11 goals and grabbed four assists in 48 games across all competitions, failing to hit the heights his transfer fee reflected upon his arrival.

Having been exempt from Atlanta's squad to face Charlotte recently, with no injuries reported, exit rumours began to swirl, and now, a return to the United Kingdom could be on the horizon in the form of Burnley.

According to Nixon, Burnley have offered a loan deal with a guaranteed buy if they go back to the Premier League at the end of the season, as Atlanta have had approaches from other clubs, but the Clarets are the only club to offer cash.

With 27 goals and four assists in just 57 games in the Championship, Latte Lath averaged over a goal contribution every other game in the division, and at 27, he could be the catalyst to Burnley's promotion charge next season, with a bid having been launched.

With Latte Lath having emerged as a real contender to fill the void up top at Turf Moor this summer, the Ivorian could well be the first addition under Hayen's regime.

Nixon also reported on Burnley's interest in former Sunderland left-back Dennis Cirkin, though no updates have been provided on that since.

Burnley will have their sights set on an immediate return to the top flight following relegation, and Latte Lath has been outlined as the potential star forward to fire them back at the first time of asking.

At Championship level he's what you would call a 'top' player, and any agreement Burnley can get to bring him to Turf Moor would be welcomed.
