Gateshead/ Newcastle United weekend. So the FA Cup first round, The Heed (Gateshead) got drawn away to AFC Wimbledon and playing on the Saturday, then with ourselves (Newcastle United) also in London on the Sunday and our old pal Terry Timewarp having his 70th birthday bash on the Saturday night, it would have been a shame not to make a weekend of it.
It’s trains, hotels and match tickets bought and we are at Central station waiting for the 6.55am train to Kings Cross on Saturday morning.
Unfortunately, railworks elongate our journey, not arriving in London till 1.23pm.
So it’s straight down to Tooting (The Saturday night party is at Tooting Social Club on the High Street).and drop our bags off in our hotel.
A few light sherries and it’s off to the Cherry Red Arena (Had tickets for our league cup game there last season before it got switched). to watch the mighty mighty Gateshead put in a performance full of passion (Yes, I am coming to wor game in a bit) and no little skill in a cracking 2-0 win, with 249 of the Heed Army making the trip down south.

This is me after the Heed’s win and just due to get soaked…
After the game and after getting soaked, we made our way to Terry Timewarp’s 70th birthday bash, which had a Ska and Reggae theme to it.
A great night which even included a 70s style buffet, consisting of ham and tomato sarnies, 70s cheese and pineapple on a stick, crisps in wooden bowls and not a quiche in sight.

Unfortunately, getting back to our hotel, we heard the news about the attack on an LNER train earlier that night, travelling regularly on the train to away games this one hit a little bit closer to home.
Over to Kings Cross on Sunday morning and it seems like the trains are running again, so after a few pre-match sherries it’s off to the worst away match day experience by some considerable distance, at the London Stadium. Massive unnecessary security checks, the only tube station you get off and start to walk to the ground and the stadium gets further away the more you walk.
We got into Stratford at 13.07 and got into the ground for kick-off, to witness probably the worst performance under nice guy Eddie.
In fact, our performance was the exact opposite of the mighty mighty Gateshead’s performance the day before.
Way below performances from big Nick (throwing him in straight after he signed, there was always going to be this performance sometime along the line) and little Nick (Just catch the ball instead of punching it), Big Joe and Bruno also below par.
But this is what happens when you constantly play games without any rest.
Although fair play to West Ham United, the better team deservedly won on the day.
Back home late last night due to more railworks and that’s me finished with football!!!
Well, until the FA Cup second round draw on BBC1 tonight…
