Tetê chooses Grêmio No 21 in nod to Ronaldinho | OneFootball

Grêmio supporters had been eager to see which number forward Tetê, the club’s third signing of the season, would wear. Despite calls for No 10 or No 7, he has chosen No 21, which was vacant, influenced by a former Grêmio player.

According to Gremistas.net, the decision was inspired by Ronaldinho Gaúcho. Ronaldinho began his Brazil career in No 21 and later wore the number at Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Grêmio.

Tetê wore No 10 at Panathinaikos, but that shirt is taken at Grêmio by Franco Cristaldo. The No 14, which he used early in his Shakhtar Donetsk career, is held by right-back Marcos Rocha.

Recommended by coach Luís Castro, with whom he worked at Shakhtar, Tetê has become the most expensive signing in Grêmio’s history. Grêmio sold him to the Ukrainian club for R$ 42 million in 2019, and have now brought him back for €6.2 million, about R$ 39.6 million.

He left Panathinaikos to sign a four-year contract.
