Bayern Munich made history with their 5-0 win over St. Pauli on Saturday evening, breaking the record for most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season.

The Bavarians have now scored 105 goals, surpassing the previous record of 101 goals from the 1971/72 season – and this after just 29 matchdays.

Club legend and honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who contributed to the record back in the 1970s, congratulated Vincent Kompany and his team on their achievement after Saturday’s win.

“Football is about titles; records are secondary. But the fact that this team has now broken our mark of 101 goals after so many decades says a lot,” Hoeneß said in comments posted on the club’s website.

“I was pleased that a young lad like Lennart Karl scored the 100th goal last week – it shows that FC Bayern is well prepared for the future, and the same applies to Jamal Musiala, who also more than deserved the 101st goal after a long injury.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate the whole team and our coach Vincent Kompany on this success. What I like most is that these players don’t stop – even after the fourth or fifth goal they keep going. That’s how you break records – and most importantly, that’s how you make the fans happy, game after game.”
