Manchester United youngster James Scanlon has been lauded by Swindon Town boss Ian Holloway after he bagged his first goal for the loan club.
Having joined Swindon on loan during the winter window from United, Scanlon scored his first goal for the side on Saturday as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Oldham.
Scanlon fired home from a tight angle in the 23rd minute after meeting Aaron Drinan’s delivery.
The United starlet made his debut for Swindon in midweek as they earned a victory against Harrogate. Holloway rewarded him with a first start over the weekend and he certainly paid the manager’s faith in kind by getting on the score sheet.
The strike also marked Scanlon’s first one for a professional club. The result left Swindon in third place in League Two, seven points adrift of league leaders Bromley.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Holloway heaped praise on Scanlon and his ability.
Holloway said [as quoted by Manchester World], “He’s delighted that Man United let us have him.”
“What he can do, he plays for his national team, he is only 19. He shows all sorts of maturity; he can play two or three different positions. So, between where Junior (Hoilett) is and Scanlon is, I can swap them over to give me whatever I might need.”
“That is the skillset we are missing without Paul Glatzel.”
“I left two people out who were outstanding in the last two wins, now they are all going to have to accept my decisions. I have got the skillset for us to move forward.”
“I think you could see that. Scanlon’s goal, the way he took it. Am I surprised? No, I am not. Am I pleased? Yes, I am because I knew he would finish that.”
“That is what he does.”
Meanwhile, United are next in action on Tuesday when they go away to West Ham. Michael Carrick and his players will be keen to make it five wins in five.
