Germany’s early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup means that their partnership with adidas is officially over. One of the most iconic duos in all of football, the Three Stripes and the DFB have created some of the most beautiful kits of all time. These are the best.
Few partnerships in world football have stood the test of time quite like Germany and adidas. For over 70 years, the famous Three Stripes have been part of the national team’s identity, accompanying it through four World Cup triumphs, three European Championship titles, and countless unforgettable moments.
While adidas has supplied Germany’s kits since 1972, their story together began at the 1954 FIFA World Cup, when adidas founder Adi Dassler supplied Germany with revolutionary screw-in stud boots. Germany’s stunning victory over Hungary not only changed football history but also launched a relationship that would become one of the sport’s most recognizable.
The German 2026 World Cup kits were designed to give a big send off as Julian Nagelsmann’s side was ready to chase its fifth World Cup, but a shock penalty kick loss to Paraguay has sent the Germans packing in the round of 32.
Now, with Nike set to become Germany’s new kit supplier in 2027, this disappointing 2026 World Cup represents adidas’ final chapter with the national team. But while it ended with a whimper, there were some sonic booms along the way. Here are our picks for the 10 best Germany kits ever produced by adidas.

Germany lifted the European Championship in England wearing one of adidas’ cleanest and most timeless designs. Blending a classic white look with subtle modern details, the shirt became synonymous with Matthias Sammer, Jürgen Klinsmann, Oliver Bierhoff, and Andreas Möller as they guided Germany to continental glory.

Germany’s EURO 1992 home shirt stood out thanks to its crisp white base, bold black, red and yellow shoulder graphics, and black v-neck collar. Because adidas has ran it back with this iconic template for several heritage releases, this remains one of Germany’s most recognizable designs.

Although Germany fell to Diego Maradona’s Argentina in the 1986 World Cup final, this elegant white shirt has become a fan favorite. It’s not the flashiest of designs, as it features a plain white base, but the touches on the collar and sleeve cuffs are magnificent.

Green has long been Germany’s traditional away color, and the 1984 European Championship shirt remains one of the country’s finest alternate kits. Different shades of green, a white v-neck collar, and adidas’ signature shoulder stripes combined to create a memorable look, especially in long sleeve form.

Germany claimed its fourth World Cup in Brazil wearing a shirt that instantly became part of football history. Featuring a distinctive v-neck and a bold black, red and gold chest graphic, it was also the kit worn during the unforgettable 7-1 semifinal victory over Brazil before lifting the trophy against Argentina and Lionel Messi.

Designed for Germany’s home World Cup, the 2006 adidas Teamgeist jersey featured a predominantly white look accented by black shoulder stripes and flowing red and gold side panels. Germany reached the semifinals and the tournament marked the beginning of a new era for the national team.

The 1994 World Cup represented a turning point in football shirt design, with kits evolving into everyday fashion pieces rather than just match uniforms. Germany’s bold home shirt reflected that shift. While the team exited in the quarterfinals, the jersey itself became one of the defining designs of the decade and remains a retro favorite today.

To celebrate the German Football Association’s 125th anniversary, adidas returned to its roots with a beautifully understated design. The white shirt featured black trim, the classic Trefoil logo and a recreated version of the DFB’s original crest, instantly becoming one of the most admired modern football shirts.

No Germany shirt better captures adidas’ legacy than the iconic 1990 World Cup jerseys, particularly the home kit. Its bold black, red, and yellow geometric chest graphic transformed a simple white shirt into one of football’s greatest designs. Not to be outdone is the away kit, which features perhaps the greatest template design in football history.
Both of these shirts were actually made for Germany’s 1988 EUROs campaign, but they are still most associated with the ’90 title run, because, well, winning is everything.
