West Brom take on Millwall in what is a huge game for both clubs as they battle at the bottom and top of the Championship.

As we enter the final weeks of the Championship season, there are some huge fixtures looming for clubs competing for promotion, and those battling to survive.

One game that will have implications at both ends of the table is Millwall’s trip to West Brom on Friday night.

The Baggies have been much-improved since James Morrison was named as interim boss, with the former player guiding Albion to six games unbeaten. Despite that, they are still nervously looking over their shoulder, as they’re just four points above the bottom three.

As for the Lions, defeat at home to Norwich last time out seriously dented their top two hopes, but Alex Neil’s men won’t give up, and they can move into the second automatic promotion spot, for one night at least, with a result at The Hawthorns.

So, it’s a huge clash, and here we look at which players won’t be involved for both sides…

Chris Mepham

The Albion defender hasn’t featured for around two months now due to a hamstring injury picked up against Stoke City.

Pleasingly for Morrison, Mepham is close to making a return, but he will understandably be cautious with the centre-back given how long he has been out. It wouldn’t be a massive shock if he made the bench, but as there was a short turnaround from Monday’s trip to Blackburn, when Mepham missed out, he is unlikely to be involved once more.

Krystian Bielik

The Polish international has had bad luck with injuries throughout his career, and it’s continued to impact him since his move to The Hawthorns.

Bielik has been absent for the past five games with a shoulder problem, and it could mean he has already played his final game of the campaign, although he is pushing to return before then. Either way, he will be absent against Millwall.

Jed Wallace

The winger had appeared to benefit from Morrison’s arrival, but a calf injury meant he missed Albion’s two games over the Easter period.

The interim chief has previously stated Wallace won’t return until towards the end of the season at best, so he is going to be watching on when his teammates take on former club Millwall. That’s a blow for Albion, but they have picked up results without Wallace recently.

Tammer Bany

Bany has had a very difficult time since he joined Albion from Randers in January 2025, and he has only made five Championship appearances in the blue-and-white stripes.

A ruptured thigh at the end of December ruled out Bany for four months, and whilst he is getting closer to featuring, Morrison will manage him carefully, and this game is likely to come too soon for the attacker.

Mikey Johnston

Johnston is another player Albion have had to do without for a while now, with the Ireland international having suffered a stress fracture in his foot.

That means the former Celtic man will miss the rest of the campaign, which is a blow for Morrison as Johnston is capable of making a difference in the final third. But, this is nothing new, so West Brom will believe they can continue to get results without the attacker.

Karlan Grant

Grant is another player that Morrison hasn’t been able to use, as he has been out for months with a hamstring injury, and there were fears he would miss the entire campaign.

But, there was a positive update on Grant ahead of the Millwall game, as it was confirmed he is back in training and pushing to return. However, he won’t play against the Londoners, but he may be involved next week.

Alfie Doughty

There was a lot of excitement when Millwall completed the signing of Doughty in the summer, and it was easy to see why, as he has been very good at this level.

Sadly, his campaign has been impacted by injury, and he has been out for five games with a calf complaint. He is expected to return soon, but Friday night is likely to come soon, with Zak Sturge continuing at left-back.

Massimo Luongo

Luongo suffered an ACL injury back in October, which ruled him out for the entire season, and the Australian international is still in recovery.

That is likely to carry on into next season, and with Luongo’s contract at The Den expiring in the summer, there’s a very high possibility that he has played his final game for the club.

Daniel Kelly

Another midfielder, Kelly hasn’t played for Millwall since December due to a hamstring injury, and that has cut his season short.

Neil does have options in the middle of the park, but it will be really frustrating for Kelly, who hasn’t kicked on since he made the bold decision to leave Celtic for the Lions, and he will hope the 2026/27 campaign is injury-free.

Will Smallbone

Smallbone is another player who has had terrible luck with injuries, which has restricted him to just nine appearances since he joined on loan from Southampton.

He had returned from a lengthy lay-off last month, but another problem followed, with Neil stating at the end of March that he expected it to keep Smallbone out for at least a few weeks. So, a return shouldn’t be too far away, but he is unlikely to be involved against Albion.
