The Owls came agonisingly close to scoring a second league victory of the season last time out, with a 90+7th-minute equaliser courtesy of Vivaldo Semedo forcing them to leave Watford with just a point.

Derby will be keen to get their form back on track, having picked up just four points in their last three matches. John Eustace’s side remain just four points shy of the play-offs, so they will be hoping for an immediate response at Hillsborough.

With both sides hoping to add another three points to their tally, Football League World have taken a look at the players who won’t be available for the clash.

Sheffield Wednesday

Nathan Redmond

A groin issue has also sidelined Nathan Redmond, who has played just 11 minutes of football since signing for Wednesday in November as one of their specially assigned free agents.

Owls manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed that one-time England international Redmond will be out until the end of December, which is a huge blow for Wednesday, especially as he was meant to boost their already slim attacking options.

Barry Bannan

A groin issue forced veteran midfielder Barry Bannan off during Sheffield Wednesday’s trip to Watford, with the Owls’ captain not reappearing after the half-time break.

Henrik Pedersen said he didn’t know what the situation was after the match, and hasn’t added any further comment since. However, there is a fair chance that the Scotsman could miss Derby’s visit, as given his age and the amount he's been used this season, he may need some further recovery time.

Di'Shon Bernard

Former Man United defender Di'Shon Bernard has been out of action since March, after being hit with a knee injury.

Pedersen has previously stated that a December return could be possible for the defender, but in a fresh update last month, it's more likely that the Jamaica international will be back in action in February instead, having undergone a further procedure to clean up his knee.

Olaf Kobacki

Olaf Kobacki has been out of action since the middle of September, leaving the Owls without one of their more senior operators.

Pedersen has recently confirmed that he could be back before the end of December, but will miss out on this clash as the Polish attacker continues his recovery.

Ernie Weaver

Central defender Ernie Weaver started the season excellently as one of the young talents given the opportunity to play first-team football due to Wednesday’s abnormal situation.

The youngster was forced to undergo an operation on his foot however in late October, which is set to see him sidelined for quite a while - his clearances and blocking abilities have been a big miss at the back.

George Brown

George Brown was another prospect who featured heavily at the start of the season, being thrust in at the deep end and even scoring against Portsmouth and Birmingham, but has been absent since October.

After twisting his foot in training, the young forward is still sidelined and out of action, but he may be back before the end of 2025.

Guilherme Siqueira

Guilherme Siqueira made two EFL Cup appearances for Wednesday earlier in the season, scoring a thunderous long-range strike against Bolton Wanderers, but was another young player struck down by injury.

An Achilles problem suffered in September immediately ruled him out for the remainder of the season, which was another blow for Pedersen’s side.

Derby County

Lewis Travis

Lewis Travis has been out with a calf problem since late October, but could be nearing a return.

John Eustace has revealed that the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder is back on the grass but not in full training, with a return before the end of the month cited.

Max Johnston

Max Johnston falls into a similar boat to Travis, with both players back on the grass, but not fully back in training.

A hamstring issue has rendered him unavailable since late October and although he could return soon, the full-back won’t be fit to face Wednesday - and he may struggle to regain his place in the starting 11 thanks to Joe Ward's fantastic form.

David Ozoh

David Ozoh has been sidelined for just over a month with a thigh issue, and is still a few weeks away from returning.

Eustace confirmed this is a recent interview, which means he is out of action for the Owls’ clash - it's been more frustration for the Crystal Palace loanee, who spent most of last season's loan stint at Pride Park on the sidelines with hamstring and thigh problems.

Carlton Morris

A summer recruit from Luton Town, Carlton Morris scored 10 goals in 16 Championship appearances before suffering an ankle injury in late November, which came as a heavy blow for the Rams amid their fantastic run of form.

He is expected to return by February, but the forward’s absence will be sorely felt in the meantime - even with the likes of Patrick Agyemang and Lars-Jorgen Salvesen to call upon.
