Everton fan group the 1878s are planning to hold a fundraising night to raise money to make larger flags for Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The existing flags they used at Goodison Park are small compared to the scale of their new, state-of-the-art stadium. While the Grand Old Lady was capable of hosting just south of 40,000 people, the new ground has a seating capacity of 52,769 and the venue is a third bigger than the previous one.

“On Saturday, the group went to Hill Dickinson to test all of our flags. Unfortunately, with the amount we have compared to the size of the stand, the group would not be satisfied going with what we’ve got and putting on a display for the Tottenham game in October as we wished,” the 1878s said in a statement.

“The issue we have is that we currently don’t have the funds to get what is needed to make this happen any time soon. We are currently awaiting some signed memorabilia from the club to be able to raffle off and raise more funds to be able to get the flags that we need.

“We are disappointed that we are not yet able to do a display at our new home but hopefully in a few months this will be possible.”

They had planned a display for Everton’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on October 26 but those plans have been postponed. Along with A View from the Bullens, the 1878s are planning to hold a fundraiser night at Bierkeller Liverpool on October 25.

They have also set up a donation link for fans (both one-time and monthly donations) to contribute towards enhancing the atmosphere at the new stadium with bigger, larger flags and tifos.
