These five Addicks' contracts are set to run out at some point over the next year
With 11 new faces through the door, Charlton Athletic had one of the busiest summer transfer windows in the Championship.
New players in a new division mean fresh contracts, and because of that, you'll find that the Addicks don't have too much work to do at the end of the current campaign when it comes to extending those whose deals are running out.
Only four players are out of contract at Charlton at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with an extra player's short-term deal expiring on New Year's Day 2026, and of those five, two have options to extend an extra year, too.
However, those whose deals do run out in June were heroes in their League One promotion last term, and have been important players for Nathan Jones since he came through the door at the Valley in February 2024, so there's a certainty that the Welsh boss will be wanting to tie the following players down to new contracts sooner rather than later.
Working chronologically, the first player whose deal is set to expire at the Valley this season is actually their most recent arrival, Onel Hernandez, who signed a short-term deal through until January in late September.
The former Norwich City man has over 200 Championship appearances to his name, and was brought in mainly as a squad option, as the 32-year-old provides plenty of experience to a side that many of whom haven't played much second-tier football in their careers.
Hernandez was unused from the bench in his first squad inclusion against Preston North End, and you'd assume that to be his role throughout the campaign, but if the terms are right between both club and player, there'd be nothing stopping his deal extending past January.
Jamaican winger Tyreece Campbell had a breakout season last year at Charlton, as the academy graduate missed just two games all season, started 37 times and then a further three in their eventual play-off success.
So far this term, the 22-year-old has been a key fixture of the Addicks squad, starting in each of their opening nine games upon their return to the Championship, despite the number of wingers who Charlton signed in the summer.
Campbell signed a new two-year deal ahead of last year's campaign, and given his role at the club has increased massively since then, you'd imagine that it won't be long before he agrees on new terms at the club he's been at since U9 level.
Luke Berry is someone whom Nathan Jones knows very well, having spent seven seasons at Luton Town and helping them from League Two to the Premier League before reuniting with his former boss last summer.
Then, he signed a two-year deal, with an additional 12-month option, meaning that an extension could be triggered for the 33-year-old at the end of the campaign.
As a leader, Berry can be seen as a very useful option to Jones, so there's an expectation that, if the club decides it's worth keeping him on his current terms, the extension will be made.
However, the central midfielder hasn't featured much in the Addicks' return to the second tier so far, and he may want to maximise his time on the field as he enters the twilight years of his career.
Matty Godden, like Berry, signed a two-year deal last summer upon his arrival from Coventry City, with the club holding an option for a further year.
The 34-year-old was the talisman in Nathan Jones' side last season, netting 22 times in all competitions, including the sole goal in their 1-0 play-off semi-final win over Wycombe Wanderers, which sent the Addicks to Wembley.
Minor knee surgery over the summer has meant that Godden has missed the opening couple of months of Charlton's return to the Championship, and with Nathan Jones' side struggling to find the net at times so far this season, his comeback will be warmly welcomed by everyone at the club.
The likes of Charlie Kelman and Tanto Olaofe were brought in during the summer, but there will be little stopping the 34-year-old from reclaiming his starting spot, and potentially triggering that contract extension, when he comes back.
Ashley Maynard-Brewer has been at Charlton since the age of 14, and since he signed his current deal, a three-year extension in March 2023, he's been in and out of the squad.
He seemed to have established himself as the Addicks' number one last season, but a groin injury saw him miss a couple of months towards the end of the season. Despite returning for their final game against Burton Albion, Nathan Jones went for Will Mannion in the play-offs.
With Thomas Kaminski's arrival, the Aussie shot-stopper looks a confirmed number two for Nathan Jones now, and with his contract up at the end of the campaign, it'll be interesting to see whether Maynard-Brewer is content with being backup, or whether the 26-year-old would back himself elsewhere.
