FLW previews Southampton's home clash against Swansea City and names the five players set to miss this clash

Southampton host table-topping Swansea City on Tuesday evening, as Football League World takes a look at all five players set to miss this thrilling clash.

Southampton will be looking to get back to winning ways after back-to-back draws on the road against Birmingham City and Lincoln City when they face Swansea on Tuesday night.

The Saints have defeated both Stoke City and Millwall comfortably this season, recovering from their opening day defeat to Watford, and will be doing everything in their power to ensure they make it five unbeaten in this fixture.

Swansea, on the other hand, will be aiming to continue their impressive start to the campaign under Vitor Matos and extend their lead at the summit of the Championship when they travel to the English South Coast in midweek.

Victories over Stoke, Derby County, and Watford, as well as draws with Sheffield United and Wrexham, see Matos’ side top the Championship after five games, keeping four clean sheets on the spin, as the Portuguese head coach will be doing everything in his power to make that five, as FLW takes a look at all five players set to miss this interesting encounter.

Caspar Jander

German midfielder Caspar Jander was one of Southampton’s standout performers last season following his switch from 1. FC Nurnberg in the summer of 2025, but has yet to make an appearance this campaign after suffering an injury in pre-season against Eastleigh.

Now, Eckert has admitted that Jander has endured a setback in his injury that will delay his return to the side, as Southampton must do without one of their star assets for this one.

Mads Roerslev

Danish right-back Mads Roerslev has made just ten competitive appearances for the Saints after joining from Brentford in the summer of 2025, having made 146 appearances across all competitions during his time with the Bees.

The 27-year-old underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon last February and remains on the road to recovery, but is not expected to feature here.

Australian defender Cameron Burgess limped off in Swansea's defeat to Birmingham in the League Cup before the beginning of the Championship campaign, with it since being revealed that the former Ipswich Town star will miss the entire season after rupturing his Achilles.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, he will be a regular in these lists for the next year or so, and though Swansea have been solid without him, he will remain a big miss nonetheless.

Goncalo Franco

Portuguese midfielder Goncalo Franco suffered ligament damage to his ankle back in July, and the time given until he would return to fitness following this was 10-12 weeks.

Though Stephen Eustáquio, Melker Widell, Marko Stamenic, and Jay Fulton are ensuring his absence isn't too harshly felt, it will be a huge boost once he returns to full fitness, though that won't be until after the international break, most likely.

Southampton supporters will spot the irony here, as ex-Saints forward Ross Stewart will miss the return to his former side in midweek after suffering an injury to his quad.

The Scot consistently struggled with injuries during his time at St Mary's, and despite being offered fresh terms to stay with Southampton this summer, he decided to part ways and join Swansea instead.

Those on the South Coast will likely be pleased that their former striker isn't going to come back and haunt them, but instead, and somewhat predictably, he will be in the treatment room for this one.
