Coventry City are set to earn a decent sum of money due to the sale of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP to Arsenal.

Coventry City and Frank Lampard are set to receive something of a major boost to their potential budget for the rest of this summer’s transfer window.

The Sky Blues will be seeking another promotion challenge next season, having suffered a defeat to Sunderland in heartbreaking fashion late on in the semi-finals of the play-offs in mid-May.

Now, with Lampard taking charge of pre-season training for the first time as Coventry boss, the ambitious City, who have been knocking on the door of Premier League promotion for a while, are due to receive a fresh windfall from former striker Viktor Gyokeres’ move from Sporting CP to Arsenal.

According to a report from CoventryLive, who say they have ratified their claims via Portuguese outlet Record, Coventry do still have a sell-on fee, contrary to recent suggestions from talkSPORT.

Coventry, as per records from the Portuguese stock market whereby Sporting have to declare all of their financial goings on, will earn 10% of the profit that Sporting make on the deal.

The Sweden international made the move to Lisbon from Coventry back in the summer of 2023 for a fee believed to be in the region of £20 million.

Now, according to Ben Jacobs, the 27-year-old Swedish sensation is set to move from the Jose Alvalade to the Emirates Stadium for a total fee of £63.5 million, which includes add-ons.

That means that Coventry are now set to receive £4.35 million as a result of his big money from the Portuguese Primeira Liga to the Premier League, with Sporting having made £43.5 million profit on the imminent transfer of the hitman.

Coventry City should use incoming Viktor Gyokeres cash to bolster Frank Lampard's squad

Lampard performed extremely well after being appointed Coventry manager last November, having replaced Mark Robins following the latter’s surprising exit from the Coventry Building Society Arena.

So far this summer, they have already brought in Miguel Angel Brau from Granada on a free transfer, as well as Kaine Kesler Hayden from Aston Villa for a fee believed to be around £3.5 million.

The aforementioned Gyokeres report from talkSPORT suggested that Coventry had worked out a deal with Sporting to wave their sell-on fee last summer in order to fund their summer business, which includes the arrivals of the likes of Jack Rudoni, Luis Binks, Oliver Dovin and Brandon Thomas-Asante among others.

With Coventry wanting to go a couple of steps further on last season, it could well be that their transfer kitty has been boosted once again, and that will leave Coventry supporters feeling excited about what is to come in this summer’s transfer window and then this season.
