A number of players on both sides could be set to miss out on this clash.
Derby County and Charlton Athletic have experienced contrasting fortunes so far this season.
The Rams recruited heavily during the summer transfer window, bringing in operators such as Ben Brereton Diaz, Lewis Travis and Patrick Agyemang, with a view to pushing further up the Championship standings.
However, John Eustace’s side have picked up just six points from their first seven matches and sit one point shy of the relegation zone heading into matchday eight.
Charlton Athletic have made a flying start to their first season back in the second tier since 2020, with recent back-to-back wins over Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers propelling them to seventh in the standings, just two points away from the automatic promotion places.
Ahead of the clash between these two sides at 8pm on Tuesday evening, we’ve taken a look at the players who could be set to watch on from the sidelines at Pride Park.
Corey Blackett-Taylor has been out with a hamstring injury since the opening day of the season, when he limped off the pitch against Stoke City.
The 28-year-old forward is making progress towards a recovery but won’t be available for the Charlton Athletic test.
Curtis Nelson suffered a cruciate ligament injury in January of this year, and has remained sidelined ever since.
The 32-year-old defender could begin to feature for Eustace as the season progresses, but at this stage, there is no chance of a return for Nelson on Tuesday evening.
Eustace recently confirmed that Liam Thompson had been struck with a knee injury during training, which will rule him out for the next four to five weeks of the season.
The 23-year-old central midfielder had started three Championship matches during the early stages of this season, but won’t feature for the Rams for the next month or so.
Owen Beck joined Derby County on loan from Liverpool in the summer but suffered a calf problem in pre-season, which has limited his impact on the squad thus far.
Eustace recently revealed that the defender has been training but wasn’t risked in their most recent 1-1 draw with Wrexham last weekend.
County’s manager targeted the next international break as a point to reintroduce the Welshman, but it is yet to be seen whether Beck could be deployed earlier than that.
Rhian Brewster has been absent from the Derby County squad for a couple of weeks now due to a groin injury.
Eustace hasn’t ruled out the potential for the versatile forward to return from his ailment on either side of the October international break (6-14th), so it could be a game-time decision on Tuesday as to whether he's fit enough to play any sort of part for Derby.
Sondre Langås has started training again recently after undergoing knee surgery during the summer and has recently completed an hour for the under-23s.
Despite these positive signs, it appears it will still be some time before the defender returns to the Derby County matchday squad, as the Rams don't want to risk losing their talented 24-year-old central defender for an extended period of time once again.
Charlton Athletic have a considerably smaller injury list, but would no doubt prefer to have their sidelined players ready and available.
Josh Edwards has featured extensively during the early stages of this season, starting all seven of Charlton’s Championship outings.
However, the left-sided defender was forced to exit the pitch after 24 minutes against Blackburn Rovers.
The extent of his injury isn’t yet known, but there could be doubts over whether he will be thrust straight back into action by Nathan Jones.
Matty Godden underwent minor knee surgery in the summer and is still yet to make his return to the Charlton Athletic squad.
There still isn’t an exact timeframe on when the forward can be expected to appear for the Addicks again, but it certainly won’t be for the Derby County clash.
