La Liga Transfers in July usually define the early idea of which direction a team wants to go in the market. And this one has already changed the outlook of La Liga’s biggest clubs. Real Madrid entered the summer following two back-to-back disappointing trophyless seasons and moved quickly to replace Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, and other experienced players. Barcelona, meanwhile, replaced Robert Lewandowski with two younger forwards as Hansi Flick prepared for his third season in charge.

Several more deals are expected before the transfer window closes, but a handful of transfers have already become the biggest stories of the month. Let’s take a look at the La Liga transfers so far that have made the most buzz.

La Liga Transfers: Real Madrid

Real Madrid spent the offseason reinforcing every area of their back line. The club signed Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries, replacing three experienced defenders who left earlier in the summer.

Cucurella joins after successful seasons in England with Chelsea and arrives in Madrid as Spain’s first-choice left-back.

The 27-year-old started throughout Spain’s successful 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign while also winning the FIFA Club World Cup last summer. His transfer, reported to be worth around $63 million, gives Real Madrid a natural left-back after several seasons of rotating players in the position.

The second signing is Ibrahima Konaté. The France international joins on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading central defenders. Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konaté has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Community Shield, while also reaching the UEFA Champions League final. He gives the club another center-back with experience at the highest level.

Madrid completed their defensive recruitment by signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter. The Dutch international spent five seasons in Serie A and became one of Inter’s most productive wing-backs, contributing goals and assists while helping the club win two Scudetti, two Coppa Italia trophies, and multiple Supercoppa Italiana titles. He also started in two Champions League finals during his time in Italy. His arrival gives Real Madrid an established right-back following Carvajal’s departure and adds another player with much needed experience.

Lastly, they also confirmed the free signing of Bernardo Silva, who had been linked with both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. Silva is expected to provide experience in midfield while also filling Real Madrid’s often-troubled right-wing position.

Rumor Mill

Reports circulating in the Spanish press claim that Rodri’s standout performance at the World Cup has changed Florentino Pérez’s stance on signing him. Previously, Pérez was reportedly against signing the Manchester City midfielder despite Rodri offering himself to the club. Now, however, it appears the Real Madrid president has changed his mind and could enter negotiations soon.

La Liga Transfers: FC Barcelona

Barcelona entered the summer with attacking concerns. Robert Lewandowski left the club, leaving Hansi Flick without the striker who had scored more than 100 goals in all competitions for the Blaugrana.

Anthony Gordon became Barcelona’s first major signing of the summer, joining from Newcastle United. The England international developed into one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide forwards and became a regular member of England’s senior squad. Comfortable on either wing, Gordon arrives after making more than 150 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions. His versatility gives Flick another option alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha as Barcelona prepare for another season competing on multiple fronts.

Barcelona followed that move by completing the signing of Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund. The Germany international scored more than 35 goals for BVB, helped the club reach the 2024 UEFA Champions League final, and became a regular part of Germany’s national team setup. Barcelona secured his signature on a long-term contract, adding another forward capable of playing on either wing or through the middle.

Neither Gordon nor Adeyemi arrives with the expectation of replacing Lewandowski on his own, they are both wingers first striekrs later. Both new signings also arrived before the club’s preseason tour, giving Flick the opportunity to integrate them from the beginning of preparations for the 2026-27 campaign.

Barcelona Rumors

Of course, the biggest rumor this summer has been Julián Álvarez to Barcelona. Barcelona went public early in the window with their intention to sign Julián Álvarez, but the Atlético Madrid board rejected the approach quite aggressively, claiming he would never leave for Barcelona. Since then, the clubs have gone back and forth with public comments and trolling, although most of it has come from Atlético Madrid.

Rumors continue to link the two, but Barcelona have reportedly started looking elsewhere for a striker. TSG Hoffenheim’s Kosovan forward Fisnik Asllani is reportedly one of the names being discussed, while João Cancelo is also rumored to make a permanent switch after last season’s loan spell.

The Surprise Package: Aubameyang to Deportivo

One of the most surprising La Liga transfers in July came outside Spain’s traditional heavyweights. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completed a move to Deportivo a Coruña, returning to La Liga after leaving Barcelona a few years ago.

The 37-year-old arrives after spells with Chelsea, Marseille, and Al Qadsiah, bringing more than 350 senior club goals and over 40 goals for the Gabon national team. During his previous spell in Spain, Aubameyang scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Barcelona.

Deportivo returned to La Liga after years outside Spain’s top flight and have now added a striker who has played in the Bundesliga, Premier League, Ligue 1, Saudi Pro League, and La Liga. Aubameyang’s record at Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Barcelona definitely puts him among the greatest strikers of his generation, so the fact that Depor secured such a signing in their first season back means they clearly mean business.

Around La Liga

Elsewhere, Atlético Madrid are once again enjoying a blockbuster summer after securing the signings of Morten Hjulmand and World Cup winner Alejandro Grimaldo. Hjulmand had long been viewed as a potential defensive midfield target for Real Madrid, but instead chose the other side of the Spanish capital. Grimaldo’s move to Atlético also means two of La Masia’s brightest former left-backs, Cucurella and Grimaldo, will now represent the two Madrid clubs.

Real Betis signed former Real Madrid left-back Fran García for around $4 million after he was pushed out of the squad following Cucurella’s arrival. Another interesting addition for the Beticos ahead of their return to the Champions League is Facundo Bernal.

Martín Satriano and Mario Martín are two important additions to José Bordalás’ squad as Getafe prepare for the UEFA Conference League. However, the departures of central midfielders Luis Milla and Mauro Arambarri to Como and River Plate will certainly sting.

Osasuna have not made many signings yet, but they will lose Víctor Muñoz, who joined Liverpool for around $45 million. With that money, Osasuna could strengthen significantly, with Manu Sánchez, Javi López, and Pepelu all being rumored targets.

Because of the World Cup, clubs have not gone all out in the transfer market just yet. Expect La Liga transfers in July to be followed by an even busier August once the post-World Cup celebrations settle down and clubs fully turn their attention back to recruitment. By then, La Liga could look very different.
