The final four games in the third round were played out on Wednesday night, including Newcastle 4 Bradford 1.

Now the Carabao Cup team of the round has been made public by the EFL, based on the Whoscored ratings from all the games, the highest rated player in each position, from the sixteen matches played.

These three Newcastle United players named in the top performing eleven of round three.

This official EFL release giving a write up on each of the NUFC trio and then the full eleven shown below.

Joelinton, the 29-year-old midfielder for Newcastle United, produced a standout performance in their 4-1 Carabao Cup Third Round win over Bradford City, scoring twice.

He opened the scoring in the 17th minute by pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area after Anthony Gordon’s blocked effort, slotting it calmly into the bottom-right corner to end a nine-month goal drought.

His second arrived in the 75th minute with a composed finish from inside the box, assisted by Bruno Guimarães, making it 3-0 and effectively sealing the tie. Across the match, Joelinton took seven shots, maintained an 87% passing accuracy, and had two key passes.

Bruno Guimarães, Newcastle United’s captain and midfield linchpin, delivered a top performance in their 4-1 Carabao Cup third-round win over Bradford. While he didn’t score, the Brazilian midfielder was central to Newcastle’s dominance, creating two assists and consistently driving play from midfield.

In the 19th minute, he threaded a defence-splitting pass to William Osula to make it 2-0, before providing another precise through-ball in the 75th minute for Joelinton’s second goal, extending the lead to 3-0.

Guimarães attempted five shots, coming close with a free-kick that struck the post and a finish that clipped the crossbar, while completing 92% of his passes and producing four key passes overall.

William Osula – 8.7 – Newcastle United

William Osula delivered a breakout performance in Newcastle United’s 4-1 Carabao Cup third-round victory over Bradford, marking an emphatic statement after a slow start to life with the Mgapies.

The young Danish striker scored a brace, with his first goal in the 19th minute coming from a calm finish between the goalkeeper’s legs after a defence-splitting through-ball from Bruno Guimarães.

He secured his second in the 87th minute, lashing home a close-range finish from Harvey Barnes’ precise cross to restore a three-goal cushion after Bradford’s late reply.

Osula was a constant attacking threat, registering five shots, four on target, and troubling Bradford’s defence throughout, including an earlier chance denied by a strong save.

He hasn’t quite made the impact nor had the chance to since joining from Sheffield but this is a step in the right direction for the 22-year-old.’
