Enzo Maresca is taking his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League game against Benfica, but there are more than just 3 points in Europe on the line.

The Chelsea boss is under serious pressure as bad results pile up for the Blues, and it’s already somehow reached the stage where there is speculation about his job.

However multiple sources are insisting he’s safe, and Maresca himself came to the interview prepared. He claimed that people from the club “showed him” evidence he was not under pressure.

“In this moment, we need to be positive. First of all because it is what the players need. Secondly because there is no reason to be negative,” Maresca explained.

“This morning, the club showed me in the last six months we lost five games, four of them with red cards. The reality is that there is not any pressure. The pressure we have is what we know – being at Chelsea as a manager, you have to win games, no doubt.”

Maresca still needs to end spiral soon as pressure rises

We’ll be honest – you don’t really want to have anyone bringing you evidence of how safe your job is – it’s the kind of thing which might make you feel the opposite, to be honest. But they’re right in that we’ve done better than this recent blip would indicate.

Benfica are a solid team but we should still be looking to beat them pretty handily given the disparity in wage bills. We need a potent attacking performance at Stamford Bridge to get the fans signing again and get some confidence back in the group.
