Thomas Müller speaks openly about his future and confirms a regular exchange with FC Bayern after the end of his career
Even at the age of 36, Thomas Müller does not want to commit himself – neither in sporting terms nor with regard to his future after his active career. The long-serving Bayern star, who moved to the Vancouver Whitecaps last summer after 25 years at FC Bayern, is deliberately leaving one topic in particular open: a possible return to the record champions in a different role
In an interview with Die Welt, Müller made it clear that the connection to FC Bayern still exists despite his move to Canada. „The connection to FC Bayern is still there, emotionally and in terms of content,“ emphasised the 2014 world champion. What’s more, there is a regular exchange with the club management about the time after his active career. There are no concrete plans yet, but the door is open. „We have discussed with the club management that there is the possibility of going down a common path in the future. There is not yet a letter of intent or even a term sheet,“ explained Müller

This openness is typical of the attacking player, who deliberately does not want to be put under pressure. A hasty commitment to a function at FC Bayern is out of the question for him. Müller currently rejects a coaching license, studies or certificates „in stock“. Instead, he wants to concentrate fully on his role as an active player. „I want to continue to be on the green pitch, be an athlete. And subordinate everything to that,“ he made clear
At the same time, Müller made it clear that he is not ruling out his future at FC Bayern – on the contrary. The decisive factor for him is to take a clear and conscious training path after the end of his career. „After my playing career, I want to consciously pursue the training path – instead of frantically bagging a certificate on the side. When I do something, I do it one hundred percent,“ said Müller
These statements are an important signal for FC Bayern. The club would like to keep its veteran in the long term, even if the timing is still open. One thing is clear: Müller is not thinking about quitting – and neither is he thinking about saying goodbye to his favourite club for good.
