The brother of Huddersfield Town striker Alfie May has been sentenced to seven years in prison for terrorising his family

Alfie May has become one of League One's most prolific strikers over the past five seasons, scoring 89 goals in the third tier during that time for Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic and Cheltenham Town.

The 32-year-old, who won the 2024 EFL Player of the Season award, had one of his quietest campaigns in front of goal for some time last term in his first season for Huddersfield, but remains one of the best forwards in the division.

Having missed out on the chance to play in the Championship with Birmingham City after playing a key role in Blues' 2025 promotion, May will be hoping that there will still be an opportunity to feature in the second tier as the Terriers target improvement on their ninth-place finish in the upcoming campaign.

Amid a, for his high standards, disappointing season in West Yorkshire, a recent report has revealed that off the pitch, May has had to deal with a horrific family situation.

The brother of May, Dane May, has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison after terrorising the footballer, his other brother Sam and their mother Deborah Rawlings with threats of violence, rape and death, according to a report from Kent Online.

May's brother was responsible for "disturbing and relentless behaviour" against his two siblings and their mother over the course of 18 months, leading to "a terrifying bid to attack one brother with a paving slab after smashing his way into his home".

The footballer was subsequently forced to install high-tech security at his family home and plot out an "escape plan" with his wife, while his mother had to move house because of the potential danger.

May's mum was additionally subject to "unwanted and threatening calls" and, in March 12 last year, was informed that Dane had threatened he was "coming to kill her", and he turned up at her address a month later while she was away in London.

Dane May's sentencing hearing detailed how the family's lives were targeted by the 38-year-old as he was charged with three offences of stalking from November 2023 and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent in April 2025.

The report also reveals that after he signed for Birmingham in 2024, May was threatened by his criminal brother that he would hurt him and his children. He would also threaten to find out where he lived and would call May's wife when he was playing an away match.

However, it was back in November 2023, while May was at Charlton, that he became a victim of the defendant's stalking behaviour, which included "numerous unwanted and abusive calls, fuelled by drink and drugs".

The footballer, in what was described as an act of "remarkable restraint and compassion", encouraged his brother to seek help as well as telling him "deep down you are a good person".

May still possessed so much fear that he and his wife installed equipment such as cameras, alarms and smoke deterrents at their home.

Prosecutor James Benson said: "He expressed resentment at Alfie and Sam's happy and successful lives, with both brothers having careers, families and family homes. Dane suggested he would put an end to it all."
