Major League Soccer is back for the 2025 campaign following the opening rounds of fixtures.

MLS is currently home to some top attacking talent, headlined by eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi and Inter Miami teammate Luis Suarez. Over the close-season, there have been some high-profile additions to a league now stacked with talent. Wilfried Zaha, Hirving Lozano, and Kévin Denkey arrive billed as potential superstars of the league.

For those interested in the latest MLS odds and free soccer bets for today, we’ve used data from sportytrader to rank the five favourites to win the MLS Golden Boot in 2025.

The favourites to win the 2025 MLS Golden Boot

Emmanuel Latte Lath (Atlanta United) – 16/1

Atlanta United broke the MLS transfer record to sign Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough in the January transfer window. The 26-year-old links up with the US outfit after scoring 27 goals in 59 league appearances for Middlesbrough over the last 18 months.

He marked his MLS debut with a brace as Atlanta kicked off the campaign with a 3-2 win over CF Montreal. Hopes are high for Atlanta this season, after reaching Eastern Conference semi-finals last season.

Latte Lath joins former favourite Miguel Almiron as new arrivals after the latter rejoined the club from Newcastle.

Christian Benteke (DC United) – 12/1

Last season’s Golden Boot winner, Christian Benteke has rediscovered his goalscoring mojo Stateside. The Belgian scored 23 goals in 30 league appearances for DC United in 2024, finishing ahead of Denis Bouanga, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez for the top-scorer accolade.

Even at 34, the towering target-man remains a real handful for MLS defences.

Denis Bouanga (Los Angeles FC) – 10/1

Denis Bouanga has been one of the most reliable goalscorers in US football since arriving in Los Angeles.

The Gabon international arrived from Saint-Etienne in 2022 and has barely stopped scoring since. Bouanga scored 38 goals in all competitions during his first full season in Hollywood and added another 28 in 2024. He’s right among the sportsbooks’ favorites to win a second MLS Golden Boot this season.

A second success would see Bouanga equal the record for top-scorer accolades, currently shared by Preki, Taylor Twellman, Jeff Cunningham, Chris Wondolowski, and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Luis Suarez (Inter Miami) – 6/1

Inter Miami have built something of a dream team, bringing together a constellation of ex-Barcelona greats. Jordi Alba, Sergo Busquests, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez now reside at the David Beckham-fronted franchise, with the latter their leading scorer with 25 goals in all competitions last season.

Suarez might have turned 38 in January but one of the greatest goalscorers of his generation continues to fire in MLS. After a runners-up finish for the Golden Boot last season, El Pistolero is aiming to add the league’s top-scorer award to his Golden Boots won in the Netherlands, England and Spain.

Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) – 3/1

Lionel Messi is the current favourite to claim the top-scorer gong. Arguably football’s greatest-ever talent, Messi’s arrival in MLS has been headline news. His first season at Inter Miami saw the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner score 20 league goals, though Miami fell short in their quest for a maiden MLS Cup.

Javier Mascherano has since taken charge in Miami and the Argentine will oversee a team containing four former Barcelona teammates. Messi might be creaking towards the end of a record-breaking career but he’s still capable of match-winning moments on a consistent basis. Those in Miami should cherish him while they still can.
