Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth last night at the Vitality Stadium in a Premier League fixture that City had to win. Manchester City’s draw with Bournemouth sees Arsenal crowned Premier League champions for the 2025-26 season. Pep Guardiola’s side fought until the end after Eli Junior Kroupi gave the Cherries the lead in the 39th minute. City never gave up, and Erling Haaland scored a 95th-minute equalizer to give brief hope of a miracle comeback. But it wasn’t to be. Come the final whistle, Manchester City’s spirit was there, but it looked like last night’s match was a step too far for a tired City side.

Manchester City looked tired throughout last night’s match and Bournemouth were brilliant.

Pep Guardiola’s side faced their third match in six days last night at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth were probably the number one team that City didn’t want to face under such circumstances. Andoni Iraola’s side had been unbeaten in the Premier League since January and needed a point to secure European football for next season. Also, the match against City was Iraola’s last as Bournemouth manager at home, so the Cherries were fired up for last night and played accordingly. In fact, they should have put the game to bed as David Brooks missed two gilt-edged chances to secure all three points for Bournemouth before Erling Haaland canceled out Eli Junior Kroupi’s superb first half goal.

Watching City play, you could see the physical toll of a hectic schedule on full display. Matheus Nunes looked like a heavy workload had caught up to him. Rodri and Bernardo Silva battled in midfield but also looked fatigued. In fact, you could say that about every Manchester City player that took the pitch last night, outside of Marc Guehi and Erling Haaland. To Pep Guardiola’s side’s credit, they never gave up the fight last night. The team spirit that Pep Guardiola has built this season was on full display as Erling Haaland conjured up a late equalizer for City in almost the final kick of the game. However, there would be no miracle win for Pep Guardiola’s side as they had no time, and nothing left to give at the final whistle.

Pep Guardiola was proud of his team’s fight, although he acknowledged how tired his team was against Bournemouth.

Although Pep Guardiola was disappointed to see Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes dashed last night, he was proud of the fight that his team showed against Bournemouth. Guardiola also acknowledged that his team was fatigued after three games in six days. The Manchester City manager also congratulated Arsenal on their Premier League title win. He explained: “Congratulations to Arsenal, Mikel Arteta and his backroom staff and fans for this Premier League – it’s well deserved.

At the same time, during my managerial career it was one of the years where we fought the most with incredible things that we could not control. We were always there and never gave up. I would have loved to arrive in the last moment to try even though it wasn’t in our own hands.

Today the fatigue was there, they had 12 days to prepare that game and they played for qualification for the Champions League with an extraordinary team and are incredibly well managed.

Since January we were really good. We had a lot of injuries and many things that were out of our control.bWe learned a lot this season. What we have to do to win. We have to win a lot of points, we have to have an advantage otherwise there are circumstances that you cannot control, we played many, many moments with difficulty and never gave up. That is why we are here.

Final thoughts.

Manchester City have given their all this season, as they did against Bournemouth last night. Although Manchester City’s Premier League title tilt ended last night, their fight and team spirit never wavered. Fatigue did catch up to City against a quality, spirited, and energetic Bournemouth side. In the end, last night’s match at the Vitality Stadium was a bridge too far for Pep Guardiola’s side. There will be lessons to be learned from City’s 2025-26 season, but last night showed that Manchester City’s spirit was willing but their bodies were not after dealing with three games in six days.
