Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz says that one of the club’s ambitions is to win the Subway Women’s League Cup this season.

The Cityzens kick-off this season’s competition with a group stage fixture against Everton at The Joie Stadium this evening.

When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Jeglertz said that Manchester City always want to win and that Subway Women’s League Cup success is once again a target this season.

“When you are at a club like Manchester City, you want to win every competition that you are competing in,” Jeglertz said. “Regardless of if it’s league or cup, we should have the ambition and the quality in the squad to see how far we can go.

“The goal is definitely to win and it has to be like that. I think the players will be ambitious when they enter the field [against Everton].”

Going on to discuss this evening’s opponents Everton, Jeglertz said that there could be some variation in The Toffees’ tactics therefore Manchester City need to be well-prepared.

He said “I think they have good individual players and a coach that is very tactically-driven. I’ve known him [for a long time] and he’s Danish, so I’ve had a lot of contact with him.

“I know that he is a very tactical coach and I expect them to do something different to what they’ve done so far. We just need to adapt to that and that’s something that we’ve seen in all of our games; almost none of the teams have played how we expected, so we are prepared for that.

“It will definitely be a tough game. They will come with a feeling that they have nothing to lose, so we need to get the start that we want.”

With games coming thick and fast for Manchester City, Jeglertz admits that there will be a number of changes made to his starting XI this evening.

He said “It’s crucial for this squad [to rotate]. We have so many good players in the squad, so we have to get the balance of giving everybody the opportunity of getting playing time. A lot of them are training really well.

“It’s definitely an opportunity [to rotate]. We play three games in eight or nine days, so we need to use the depth that we have in the squad. There will definitely be the opportunity to see some other faces.”
