Leeds are also pursuing a potential move for Shea Charles after bidding north of £20 million, while hope remains they can persuade free agent Julian Brandt to come to Elland Road. Whoever signs, the first likely being Wilson, will need to pick a number for the new campaign.

No. five is the newest vacancy, opened by Pascal Struijk’s £20 million switch to Brighton. The Dutchman had worn five for two years.

No. 12 was taken by loan winger Jaidon Anthony in 2023/24 before he returned to Bournemouth. Previous holders range from Gordon Strachan to Paul Rachubka.

No. 13 is often for back-up goalkeepers, although neither Karl Darlow nor Alex Cairns chose it. Kristoffer Klaesson vacated it in 2024 and Kiko Casilla wore it before him.
