All figures are from transfermarkt.co.uk with Community Shield and Super Cup competitions excluded.

5. Niko Kovac – €407m

Niko Kovac led Bayern Munich to a German league and cup double in 2018/19, but was sacked after a mixed start to the following season. Since then, the Croatian has take charge of AS Monaco, Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund without lifting another major trophy.

Currently in charge of the latter, he has been tasked with reviving Dortmund’s fortunes. This summer’s business includes the £27m signing of Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland.

4. Pep Guardiola – €438m

Pep Guardiola ranks fourth on this list with €438m spent since his last trophy at Manchester City.

A serial winner, Guardiola has won 14 major trophies during his time at the Etihad but last season was a rare downturn. City ended the campaign without a major trophy for the first time since Guardiola’s debut season.

3. Unai Emery – €472m

Unai Emery has overseen plenty of improvement at Aston Villa, but is yet to end the club’s 30-year wait for a trophy.

The Spaniard has guided Villa from the Premier League’s bottom half into Europe, with last season seeing Champions League football at the club for the first time in the modern era. Next in his sights will be ending the silverware itch.

2. Diego Simeone – €535m

Diego Simeone can do little wrong in the eyes of the Atletico Madrid supporters.

The Argentine has spent 14 years in charge of the Rojiblancos, in which he’s led Atleti to two La Liga titles and two Europa League crowns among his honours. However, it’s been four years since the most recent of those successes, as Atletico look to battle Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of the division.

1. Mikel Arteta – €1bn

Mikel Arteta has now broken the €1 billion barrier since his last trophy success at Arsenal.

Arteta led Arsenal to the FA Cup in his debut campaign but has failed to win silverware since. The Gunners have shown significant improvement, becoming Champions League regulars again and finishing as Premier League runners-up in three straight seasons.

However, with another substantial investment and the addition of a goalscorer in Viktor Gyokeres, the pressure is on Arteta to get his side over the line.
