Barcelona’s 3-2 victory against Levante was anything but straightforward.

Hansi Flick’s side found themselves trailing 0-2 at half-time, yet the German coach showed no hesitation in making tactical changes that turned the game around, reports Mundo Deportivo.

By the closing stages, Barça were operating with a three-man defence and pushing numbers forward, eventually sealing a dramatic 3-2 win.

Barcelona started the game with nine regulars but opted for Marc Casado and Marcus Rashford instead of Frenkie de Jong and Fermin Lopez.

Although Barça dominated possession, their first-half display lacked penetration between the lines, something Flick had already warned about when analysing Levante in the build-up.

Flick’s tactical adjustments prove crucial

The German coach kept his 4-2-3-1 shape but altered player roles when Gavi and Dani Olmo were introduced at the start of the second half in place of Casado and Rashford.

Gavi brought more dynamism, covering more ground and giving Barça greater defensive control compared to Casado, who had played a deeper role.

With the game still locked and the comeback incomplete, Flick took another bold step in the 76th minute. Robert Lewandowski replaced Alejandro Balde, while Andreas Christensen came on for Ronald Araujo.

This change shifted the formation into an attacking 3-3-4, with Lewandowski partnering Ferran Torres as a second striker.

Pau Cubarsi stayed deeper alongside Christensen, with Eric Garcia covering the right.

Barça pinned Levante inside their own half and continued to create chances, with Jules Kounde later replacing Eric to maintain defensive balance while still threatening in attack.

Barcelona ended the game with 82% possession, 26 shots compared to Levante’s eight, and 10 efforts on target.

Their relentless pressure paid off, securing another comeback victory and underlining Flick’s tactical courage.

This was not just a win – it was a statement that Barça are learning how to grind out results under their new manager.
