Liam Rosenior’s first press conference was very impressive on a big picture level, as he made a strong impression with the journalists and fans watching on.

But as well as talking about the philosophy he would bring and style of style of manager he is, Rosenior also spoke about tonight’s game more specifically. It would have been easy to forget that that was the reason for the presser taking place at all.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game tomorrow,” Rosenior said of the game against Charlton in the FA Cup.

‘They play with real intensity, they are very, very difficult to play against. I’ve watched a lot of their recent games. It’s going to be a typical English FA Cup tie; third round in January. And, my players need to be able to stand up to that intensity.”

“If you think too far ahead, that’s when you fall. So for me, the focus is Charlton and trying to put a run of results together that put us in a really good place. But I’m not thinking too far ahead. We just have to focus on the here and now.”

It truly will be a harder test than it looks. Rosenior is likely to start his Chelsea reign with a fairly rotated team, and we’ve seen how those second strings struggled against the likes of Lincoln earlier this season.

Playing the 8pm game under the lights with a big TV audience will also ramp up the motivation for our opposition and the pressure on us.

In other news…

Nathan Jones has made Charlton’s intentions clear in tonight’s game. They’re not just here to have a good time, they want to beat us.

Chelsea’s rotten project under BlueCo has been slammed by a player who was at the club in a very different era, and who can’t believe that “money, money, money” is all that remains.
