There is no doubt that this FC Barcelona team has shown a lot of improvement since Hansi Flick took charge last summer. Despite their struggles in La Liga, the Blaugranes have been one of the best teams in Europe, finishing the UCL League Phase in the second position, only behind Liverpool.

The Catalans faced a string of poor results at the end of the last year, but since the start of 2025, they have been recovering their form with a successful Spanish Super Cup campaign, a 7-1 win over Valencia, and the direct qualification to the Round of 16 in the UCL.

However, as SPORT has noted, there is still one issue that Hansi Flick will be looking to address going forward, i.e., the goals conceded.

This has been an ongoing issue for Barcelona, as they have not been able to keep a clean sheet in the last six consecutive games, their last clean sheet coming only in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club. Since that game, they have conceded 11 goals in 6 games, 2 from Real Madrid, 1 from Real Betis and Getafe each, 4 from Benfica, 1 from Valencia, and 2 from Atalanta.

Things have been even worse in La Liga, where they have gone 10 games straight without keeping a clean sheet, with the game where they did not concede any goal being the 4-0 win over Real Madrid. In the league, this inability to keep a watertight defense has also cost them points, particularly in the defeats to Real Sociedad, Las Palmas, Leganes, and Atletico Madrid.

In total, Barcelona have kept clean sheets in only 8 of the 33 games they have played across all competitions this season.

One of the steps Flick has taken to try to solve this problem is to change his goalkeeper, as Wojciech Szczesny is now starting ahead of Inaki Pena. But this change has also not paid the required dividends, as the Pole has also been conceding a lot of goals.

Thus, this is more of a team problem than an individual problem, and Flick might have to work on his defensive system to ensure this weakness does not cost the team in the second half of the season.
