Arsenal are hoping to sign a new goalkeeper on WSL transfer deadline day.

The BBC have reported that Arsenal still hope to sign a goalkeeper, after Renee Slegers confirmed in December that Arsenal hope to sign a new option for the position.

Why are Arsenal looking to sign a goalkeeper?

Arsenal have struggled with injuries in the goalkeeping position throughout the 2025-26 campaign, which has led to them wanting to sign a new option on WSL transfer deadline day.

Their No.1 option, Daphne van Domselaar, has only recently returned to the matchday squad, following an injury which has kept her out since their 2-1 victory over Real Madrid on November.

She has been on the bench for Arsenal’s last three games behind Anneke Borbe.

Borbe was taken to the hospital after a nasty collision with teammate Lotte Wubben-Moy during the Women’s Champions Cup final

Arsenal players held Borbe’s shirt during the trophy presentation after their 3-2 win over Corinthians. Borbe was released from hospital the same evening after precautionary checks.

The Gunners have been without former No.1 option Manuela Zinsberger since October. The 30-year-old is likely to miss the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

Zinsberger might have played her last game for Arsenal, as she is one of 10 key players out of contract this summer.

What goalkeeper could Arsenal sign on deadline day?

Despite Renee Slegers confirming in December that Arsenal wanted to sign a goalkeeper during the winter window, the rumour mill has been fairly quiet.

Sky Germany earlier in January linked Arsenal with a move for German U23 international Laura Dick.

The 22-year-old has spent her entire career to date with Frauen-Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

Asked whether she wants to sign a goalkeeper in January, Slegers said: “Yes, definitely, because Manu is out and Daphne has been managing issues, so we’re definitely looking. When we have more clarity, then of course things will go forward and become public.

“We’re definitely looking at that position because we think we need a really strong goalkeeper union with three goalkeepers available and we’re not in that situation at the moment so we’ll have to solve that for the second half of the season.”

Could Arsenal do any more business on WSL transfer deadline day?

Arsenal are unlikely to make any further additions, other than a new goalkeeper. However, they could be bringing in two huge free agent signings during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Georgia Stanway and Barcelona’s Ona Batlle.

Stanway has already confirmed she will leave Bayern Munich this summer. Batlle has made no such confirmation, but her contract is coming to an end.

The signing of Stanway makes sense as Arsenal look to strengthen their midfield options this summer.

Batlle’s addition could come amid uncertainty over Katie McCabe’s future. McCabe could leave Arsenal, with reports claiming that she won’t sign a new deal and could move to the NWSL.

Batlle can play on either side of defence, which would make her a versatile option.
