Wolves’ visit to Maidenhead United on Wednesday stems from Max Kilman’s £40m move to West Ham two years ago, and it also doubles as Cesar Peixoto’s first match in English football.

The friendly was agreed during negotiations when Maidenhead’s sell-on clause from Kilman’s £40,000 move to Wolves entitled them to 20 per cent of the profit, half of which they waived to help the deal. “It was part of a commitment from Wolves, which we really appreciate,” said Maidenhead chief executive Jon Adams, speaking to ExpressAndStar.com.

“They contacted us at the end of last season to try and get a date in the diary. There is a lot of excitement about, that is for certain.”

Maidenhead are believed to have received around £4m, thought to be the largest sell-on windfall for a non-league club. Two years on, it underpins plans for a sustainable future and a proposed ground move from York Road, the oldest senior football ground used continuously by the same club.

“It was fantastically important,” says Adams. “Our challenge is to develop the club in a sustainable way.”

Wednesday’s game should deliver another financial lift, with more than 2,000 expected, including around 1,000 travelling Wolves fans. Adult tickets are priced at £14.

“We are really grateful to Wolves for following through with this. Wolves have made it so easy for us. It really has been a pleasure to work with them to get this game on.”
