Chelsea’s transfer summer is done, and even by their standards it was an exciting one.
So many players came and went – the Blues really chopped through a lot of important moves, improving the team and making money in the process.
The looked through the whole thing on the London is Blue podcast and gave their take on how it had all gone.
You can see their discussion in the clip embedded here:
“The sales have been outstanding. Maybe you can point to Disasi and Sterling [who didn’t get moves], but outside of them in terms of players on big wages, we managed to move them all on… I’m very happy with that and very surprised with some of the fees we were able to get.” their pundit Jessica Frota said.
In particular she noted the way we were able to sell Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku and the fees we managed to get for them. She noted one fee as being larger than expected in particular:
“I would say Broja was surprising – he’s struggled with injuries and his fee was quite significant. £20m for a player who wasn’t been playing and has had loans which didn’t work out. It’s a risk from Burnley.”
All 3 pundits all agreed on one negative however – the sale of Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea couldn’t resist the juicy loan fee and the even juicier option to buy which Bayern Munich put on the table. But it does leave us a little short up front – with Liam Delap out, we’re now just two injuries away from playing a winger up front like we did back in the spring.
Still – no window is perfect. And if we get lucky with injuries, this gamble could pay off hugely.
