The last three winners of the European Golden Shoe – superstar names from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid – have made sensational starts to the 2025-26 campaign. But who else is up there for goals scored?

We’re now into an era in which Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominating the European goalscoring charts is becoming a distant memory, but some pretty special players have emerged to fill their boots.

Without further ado, here’s the top 10 goalscorers across Europe’s five major leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1) this season so far. Keep checking back as we’ll be keeping this one updated throughout the campaign.

Note: if two players are tied on goals, we’ve ordered them by their goals-per-minute ratio. Several players, including Brentford’s Igor Thiago and Brighton’s Danny Welbeck don’t quite crack this top 10 for this reason.

=8. Jean-Philippe Mateta –  6 goals

We all love Mateta, the late bloomer who has taken the Premier League by storm and won his first international cap for France this season.

Six goals in 10 games, including a hat-trick against Bournemouth in October, is a fine return. He’ll surely hit double figures again this year.

=8. Jonathan Burkadt – 6 goals

The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has started the season in impressive form, with six goals in just eight appearances for the Bundesliga side.

=8. Antoine Semenyo – 6 goals

The man of the moment and everybody’s favourite FPL asset.

Never mind ‘best player outside the big six’, Semenyo might’ve been the Premier League’s standout player full stop in the early weeks of the 2025-26 season.

Keep this up and all of Europe’s top clubs will surely be chasing his signature next summer. He’s been outrageously good for Andoni Iraola’s high-flying Cherries.

=6. Mason Greenwood – 7 goals

After scoring four goals against Le Havre during Marseille’s 6-2 hammering two weeks ago, Greenwood is joint sixth on this list.

=6. Julian Alvarez – 7 goals

It’s been a desperately disappointing start to the season for Atletico Madrid, who might have already blown their title hopes after winning just six of their first 11 outings of this La Liga season.

But they’ve shown that they can still be a formidable side on their day, with Alvarez their undoubted star.

He scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano and followed that up with a brilliant brace in a statement-making 5-2 mauling of Real Madrid.

5. Esteban Lepaul – 8 goals

Lepaul had already scored for Angers before Rennes signed him in August 2025, but the little-known 25-year-old has been in absurd form at his new club.

A further seven goals have been plundered and Lepaul is one of Ligue 1’s hottest strikers right now.

4. Joaquin Panichelli – 9 goals

Argentinian forward Panichelli scored 20 goals for Mirandes in the Spanish Segunda Division and has since been signed by Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg.

With Liam Rosenior in the dugout, Panichelli has made a bright start at his new club and looks as though he could become one of 2024-25’s breakout stars.

3. Harry Kane – 12 goals

It’s very early days and a small sample size, but Kane’s numbers so far are off the charts in 2025-26.

Not only is he in contention for the European Golden Shoe, but he’s also notched three assists. That works out as a direct goal contribution every 46.9 minutes in the Bundesliga.

We’ll see how the campaign develops, but the early vibes suggest Bayern breezing to yet another league title at an absolute canter.

The kind of season that Robert Lewandowski used to fill his boots with 30+ hauls when he was Kane’s age.

Music to the ears of every England fan in a World Cup year.

=1. Erling Haaland – 13 goals

Thirteen goals in 10 Premier League games.

Haaland is looking terrifyingly sharp once again. Write him off at your peril.

=1. Kylian Mbappe – 13 goals

Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid have kicked off the 2024-25 La Liga campaign with eight wins from nine, top of the table, and Mbappe looks hell-bent on sealing his status as the best player in world football in the post-Messi and Ronaldo era.

Mbappe’s first season at Madrid was disappointingly lacking in silverware, but he did claim his first-ever European Golden Shoe.

The Ballon d’Or could well follow next year if Alonso can build a functional team around his guarantee of goals, and the early signs are promising.
