Ranking the best paid striker in League Two for this season
The regular League Two season came to a close on Saturday in dramatic fashion as Cambridge United sealed their promotion to League One.
They will join MK Dons and Bromley in preparing for life in the third tier for the next campaign, while Salford City, Notts County, Chesterfield and Grimsby Town will fight for the fourth promotion spot in the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Harrogate Town’s defeat ensured their relegation to the National League, where they will be joined by 24th place Barrow.
The other clubs will now be turning their attention to the summer, where they will be hoping to build squads capable of getting into promotion contention next year.
And of course the play-offs still offer a path to League One for four teams, with the final to be played on 25 May at Wembley Stadium.

Ellis Harrison helped Bristol Rovers earn a 14th place finish in his first season with the club, having joined in the summer.
He initially played for the League Two side from 2011 to 2018 before returning after his departure from MK Dons.
The striker has an estimated weekly salary of £3300, and he registered 11 goals and two assists as the team endured an underwhelming campaign.
The 32-year-old will be hoping to carry his strong form from the end of the season into the next term, with the club hoping for better things in 2026/27.

Cole Stockton had a disappointing season with Salford City as the team narrowly missed out on automatic promotion from League Two.
The forward managed just three goals and two assists from 29 appearances in the league, with the club coming just one point behind third place Cambridge.
The 32-year-old will now be hoping to make a difference in the play-offs, where he will be looking to show why he is paid £3400 per week by the fourth division side.

Albert Adomah made the switch to Walsall in the 2024 summer transfer window after his exit from QPR, and he has predominantly played as a forward for the League Two side.
The 38-year-old is firmly in the final stages of his career, and he ended up being more of a secondary option this season as the club finished 12th in the table.
Even so, he still contributed six goals and three assists while earning a salary of £3500 per week, and he also made his 700th appearance in the EFL earlier in the campaign.

Paddy Madden joined Accrington Stanley on loan from Chesterfield in the summer transfer window, becoming a regular presence in the first team squad.
The Irishman receives a salary of £3800 per week, although it is unclear how that is divided up between his parent and loan clubs.
Madden contributed six goals and one assist while on loan, with Accrington finishing 16th in the table.

Promise Omochere joined Bristol Rovers in the 2024 summer transfer window, making the switch from Fleetwood Town.
He has struggled to make much of an impact with the club in that time, as the Pirates suffered relegation in 2025.
The striker contributed just two goals for Rovers this campaign, with the team enduring a disappointing first year back at this level as they came 14th in the table.
Omochere earns £3800 per week, making him one of the best paid players in his position despite his lack of goals.

Fabrizio Cavegn joined Bristol Rovers in the summer following their relegation, and he enjoyed a much more impressive campaign, at least on an individual basis.
The Swiss scored 10 goals for the League Two side as they missed out on a top seven finish by 16 points.
The 23-year-old earns £4300 per week from the Gas, and will be hoping to help power the club to a more sustained promotion push in 2026/27.

Callum Paterson made the switch to MK Dons last summer following his exit from Sheffield Wednesday.
The 31-year-old has proven himself as a versatile figure, but he predominantly played up front for the Dons as they earned promotion to League One.
He earns £4400 from the League Two team, having contributed 16 goals and eight assists as the club clinched the title on their way to automatic promotion.
Paterson will now be hoping to have a big impact in the third tier, where he could meet his former side Sheffield Wednesday after their relegation from the Championship.

Alassana Jata has been with Notts County since January 2024, joining in the months following their promotion from the National League through the play-offs.
He has enjoyed two impressive full campaigns with the Magpies, scoring a total of 38 goals in the league since his arrival, justifying the £4500 per week he receives.
The striker bagged 14 in this campaign, as well as three assists, with the team earning a play-off place.
Notts County will face Chesterfield for a place in the final later this month at Wembley Stadium.

Scott Hogan joined MK Dons in October 2024 following his exit from Birmingham City, and he has struggled for consistent starts in that time.
The forward has contributed nine goals from a total of 53 appearances in the league for the League Two champions.
He started on just two occasions this season, finding the back of the net once, as Paul Warne’s side lifted the fourth tier title.
The 34-year-old receives a salary of £4600 per week, making him one of the best paid players in his position in the division.

Ollie Palmer made the switch to Swindon Town after his exit from Wrexham last summer, cementing himself as a key part of the side in the first of his two year contract.
He made 41 appearances in League Two as the team narrowly missed out on a play-off place, contributing eight goals and two assists.
The striker was unable to help the Robins earn promotion, as he had done with the Red Dragons in each of the last three seasons.
But the 34-year-old will be focused now on the next campaign, as he sees out the second year of his £4800 per week deal with the club.
