AI has listed the fourth tier stadiums it believes aren't exactly aren't in great condition

The 2026/27 League Two campaign is fast-approaching, and for many supporters of clubs in the division, they will have already pinpointed the stadiums which they are looking forward to visiting the most.

Indeed, the further down the EFL pyramid you go, there is a strong likelihood that you will be attending stadiums packed with history and character still to this day, largely due to the fact that financial resources are nowhere near the same levels as clubs in the Premier League or the Championship in particular.

That said, though, there is a school of thought amongst football supporters in England that preserving such history and character only adds to the matchday experiences on offer, as a loud atmosphere can be retained compared to several modern-day, purpose-built grounds which are found higher up the divisions or across the globe.

There are also a handful of clubs who will compete in League Two this season for the first time in several years, which also adds to the anticipation as opposition supporters can immerse themselves in the footballing culture of yet another town or city which they are not particularly familiar with at this moment in time.

However, these opinions are, of course, subjective, and for some, they are perhaps likely to enjoy a more modern feel compared to fans of a different generation.

And, with that in mind, Football League World has asked AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, to name and rank the eight 'ugliest' stadiums in the 2026/27 League Two lineup, and here are the results.

8 ? ? York City - LNER Community Stadium

At the bottom of this eight-stadium list is the LNER Community Stadium, which will host League Two football for the very first time following York City's dramatic return to the EFL as National League champions.

The Minstermen's former ground, Bootham Crescent, was known for its character, and the reason for the new stadium featuring on this list, according to AI, is because it reflects the exact opposite.

AI states that whilst the design of the 8,500 ground, which is shared with Betfred Super League outfit, York Knights, is smart and modern, it is based almost three miles away from York city centre, which is a slight issue in itself.

The ground has been open for just over five years, with the first game coming against AFC Fylde in the National League North in a 3-1 success.

7 ? ? Rochdale FC - Crown Oil Arena

In seventh are York's newly-promoted counterparts, Rochdale, who play their home fixtures at the Crown Oil Arena, which is best-known to some as Spotland.

The stadium has been in use for various sports since 1878, but like many others, was the subject of major redevelopment plans in the 1990s as football in England looked to enter a new era in terms of matchday experiences and supporter safety.

Like York's stadium, the 10,249-capacity arena is also shared with Rugby League side, Rochdale Hornets, but features on this list due to the fact that AI believes there is not enough character compared to other stadiums in League Two, and that the aforementioned capacity can feel way too big for the crowds which Dale have drawn in recent times.

6 ? ? Newport County - Rodney Parade

Next up is Newport County's iconic stadium, Rodney Parade, which, in recent years, has gained notoriety for the Exiles' FA Cup runs, which has seen the stadium welcome the likes of Leicester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The South Wales venue currently boasts a capacity of 7,850, and is often the subject of mixed reviews from supporters of opposition teams due to the distance between the away end as a result of the running track which goes across the perimeter of the pitch.

Some of the stands are also from different eras, which leads to a feeling of a mismatch, and that is exactly why AI has put the ground in sixth place on this particular ranking.

5 ? ? Accrington Stanley - Wham Stadium

Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium sits fifth on this, perhaps, unwanted ranking, with the ground still the third-smallest in League Two ahead of Fleetwood Town and Salford City's Highbury and Peninsula Stadium homes.

For some supporters, especially during Stanley's time as a League One club, this ground emerged as a favourite due to the different feel it gave them compared to other stadiums, particularly those of a much greater capacity.

However, AI's justification for the arena holding a spot on this particular list is that it is 'visually sparse', despite the compact and intimate nature of the stands, which can give the East Lancashire side an advantage.

4 ? ? Shrewsbury Town - Croud Meadow

Halfway up this list is the Croud Meadow, home of Shrewsbury Town.

The Shropshire outfit will be hoping that their stadium sees brighter days in the future, particularly with constant reports of a takeover from an American consortium.

However, it is fair to say that AI isn't the biggest fan of the stadium's overall looks, with the two stands behind each goal and down the side mirroring the design of the other.

The stadium's out-of-town location, though, has surprisingly been described as a benefit this time, even though it was a criticism of York's.

3 ? ? Crawley Town - Broadfield Stadium

Moving into the top three, and the next selection from AI is the Broadfield Stadium, home of Crawley Town.

The Red Devils will be kicking off their second successive term in League Two this year after a solitary season in League One, but for some, the journey down to Sussex can be enough for this particular away day to not emerge as a favourite, especially if the result is a negative one for their team.

Crawley have only played their home matches at the Broadfield Stadium since 1997, when they relocated from Town Mead, but in those past 29 years, AI believes that facilities at the ground have already become 'dated' and uninspiring.

Another criticism is the lowness of the roof on the two stands behind each goal, even though some would argue that this helps the stadium somewhat retain any form of atmosphere.

2 ? ? Barnet FC - The Hive

In second place is Barnet's stadium, The Hive, which has been the subject of controversy ever since the North London side relocated from its previous home, Underhill, in 2013, with their current home not in the capital's borough of Barnet.

Since the move, the club's history has been chequered, with promotions and relegations to and from League Two and the National League, but they are now seemingly on an upward track.

However, as has been the case with many supporters who have visited the 6,500-capacity arena, AI has criticised the fact the location of it doesn't exactly resemble a traditional football stadium.

Indeed, the computer believes The Hive gives off the feel of a training complex, which isn't entirely hard to disagree with given the plethora of community pitches on its edge.

1 ? ? Northampton Town - Sixfields Stadium

However, the ugliest League Two stadium in AI's mind is Sixfields, home of newly-relegated Northampton Town.

The Cobblers will play fourth tier football at the 8,203-capacity ground for the first time since 2023 as a result, but even though the East Stand has now been fully open for over a year, it has still received plenty of criticism from the computer.

Sixfields is, of course, infamous for the fact many supporters, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown, were able to watch matches from a nearby hill, but AI states that the overall design of the stadium is awkward, and can still feel too big for a club the size of Northampton's stature.
