Liverpool may reportedly be unsure about paying as much as £85m for the transfer of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

Despite so many transfer rumours linking the Reds with Diomande in recent times, it seems Lewis Steele is hearing that there’s some uncertainty about going ahead with this deal.

Diomande has shone for Leipzig, but he remains relatively inexperienced, while the 19-year-old’s numbers are arguably not that outstanding at the moment.

See below for Steele’s update on the Diomande to Liverpool saga as he spoke to Anfield Index…

“The word I have on Diomande is that Liverpool are just a bit unsure whether to trigger an £85 million-ish fee for a player who in the grand scheme of things is relatively unproven. His numbers aren’t that good. They’re not like jump off the screen good,” Steele said.

Is Yan Diomande good enough for Liverpool?

While there’s perhaps a case for saying Diomande’s numbers don’t stand out as anything that special, with 13 goals and seven assists so far this season, there are also other things to take into consideration.

Firstly, LFC urgently need to replace Mohamed Salah, with the legendary Egyptian forward set to depart the club at the end of the season.

Secondly, even if Diomande himself looks a little overpriced considering his form and lack of experience, it’s also not like there are that many other options out there right now.

It’s a difficult market for attacking players, with other obvious candidates like Michael Olise surely unrealistic and too expensive.

Where do you stand on the Diomande situation? Is he the best option out there or are Liverpool right to approach the deal with caution? Let us know in the comments!
