Irrespective of whether Kevin De Bruyne chose to leave Manchester City at the end of this season or not, Pep Guardiola’s squad is in desperate need of more creativity in the final third. De Bruyne has subsequently decided that this will be his last season at City. One player who looms as the ideal player to add creativity to Pep Guardiola’s squad is Florian Wirtz. Now a new report indicates that City believe that Wirtz is leaning towards leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer. If that is the case then Manchester City have been given hope that they can sign Florian Wirtz.

Giuseppe Labellarte has relayed a report from Graeme Bailey for TBR Football that Manchester City believe that Wirtz is edging closer to deciding to leave Bayer Leverkusen. Furthermore, the TBR Football report indicates that Bayern Munich shares the same belief as City. It is also included in the TBR Football report that Bayern Munich are confident of signing Wirtz this summer. The TBR Football report also reveals that the Florian Wirtz camp has previously given City encouragement that a move to the Etihad is possible this summer.

As it stands it is a case of waiting for Florian Wirtz to make a decision on his future before Manchester City can make their move.

The elephant in the room in regards to what happens with Florian Wirtz this summer is the contract extension that Bayer Leverkusen have offered him. The TBR Football report points out that Leverkusen offered Wirtz a contract extension at the turn of the year. But we have now reached April and Wirtz hasn’t signed the contract. That does give the impression that he could leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

That’s where the hope in signing Florian Wirtz lies for Manchester City. The same can be said for Bayern Munich. But from a City point of view, the longer Wirtz delays signing a contract extension, the more realistic the possibility is of City signing him this summer. Everything hinges on that decision. But the TBR Football report gives the impression that City are confident that Wirtz could be available this summer. That confidence appears to be well-placed based on events unfolding surrounding Wirtz.

But the longer Wirtz delays signing the contract extension with Leverkusen the more likely it seems that City have a chance of signing him.
