One player who has had a disappointing season for Manchester City is Jack Grealish. He isn’t alone on that front, but Grealish just hasn’t played up to the standards expected of him this season. Coming into the 24/25 season off the back of the disappointment of missing out on selection for England for last summer’s European Championships, the scene appeared set for a Grealish redemption story. But that has failed to materialise.
Now, as the summer transfer window approaches, it appears that Grealish won’t be a Manchester City player at the start of next season. In fact, it would be a major surprise if the England international remained at City in all honesty.
Oliver Thomas has reported for Sports Mole that Manchester City and Jack Grealish are open to parting ways this summer. Furthermore, Thomas reports that a loan move for next season may benefit both parties. It is also reported by Thomas that Manchester City are reluctant to sell the England international to a club in the Premier League that could rival them for a Champions League place next season. Lastly, Thomas reports that Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest in signing Jack Grealish.
At times this season, it has appeared that there is a role for Jack Grealish in Manchester City’s rebuild. There have been flashes of quality from Grealish on occasions when he has been allowed to play. But over the past few months, those opportunities have been few and far between. Since Boxing Day, Grealish has only played 7 times in the Premier League. He has only made one start in those 7 appearances. Grealish was a constant presence in Manchester City’s run to the FA Cup final. But he was an unused substitute in City’s loss to Crystal Palace at Wembley. Looking at the data and evidence Grealish looks to be surplus to requirements for Pep Guardiola at this stage.
A move away from Manchester City would likely be the best move for Jack Grealish. He needs to be playing to remain in contention for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad. The England international also needs to be playing to regain his best form. As of right now, there doesn’t seem to be the opportunity for Grealish to do that in Pep Guardiola’s squad. A summer move is likely the best thing for Grealish and for Manchester City.
This season has been a disappointing campaign for Jack Grealish. As the season has gone on he’s been unable to establish himself in the Manchester City starting eleven. All indications are that he will leave the Etihad this summer. Where he ends up is anyone’s guess at this stage. But it would be a major surprise to see Jack Grealish remain at Manchester City after this season. That much is certain.
